Pretty Baby Syndrome

From an 18 y/o mother of two girls. Speaking of her 1st child's father who shook the little girl when she was a baby . . . "He's crazy, but he makes pretty babies." Same young lady speaking of her 2nd kid's father who will be going to court this month to face charges for severely burning her 1st child with hot water . . . "This is a big mess, but one thing I got out of it . . . he helped me make a pretty baby."

From a 36 y/o guy that works in my building. He utterered these words as he showed my co-worker and me a picture of one of his 3 kids that he can not support. "You see, I can make some pretty babies."

There is some "pretty baby" disease that is going around. Do people think that if their babies are pretty that it excuses everything else? Is that why young ladies are jumping in the bed and having children because they don't want the "pretty baby" maker to pass them by??

The next time you hear someone saying they make pretty babies or they want to have a baby with someone jst because the baby will be pretty (or have good hair), kick them for me!!!! Tell them that it's ghetto thinking. They need to worry about a pretty spiritual relationship with God, or a pretty education or a pretty home or a pretty trip to some extravagant place . . . or, better yet, a pretty bank account.

Throwing your sanity and youth away to have a pretty baby is just not a good trade off. And, pretty is only skin deep.

Pretty Baby

So they have a pretty baby, that doesn't mean the child would grow up to be pretty.
Look at the Olsen twins, they were not pretty babies. Now look at them.

Reminds me of Taj Mowry (The Smart Guy). He's not as cute as he was when he was younger.

Hee, Hee...I have been saying this all along. I'm glad someone else recognizes this. All children are beautiful and are God's children but I always thought they looked like those troll dolls. Ugly enough to be kinda cute but not quite. http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...sad/scared.gif

Amen sistah! That is ghetto thinking. And unfortunately some folx still have the mentality.

How bout being dark skinned and being told to marry someone light so you can have pretty babies?  WTF?

If that ain't EFFED up I don't know what is! Sorry, getting with someone because "they can make pretty babies" is just WHACK!

My ex-boyfriends mom, the nice woman she is, made a comment years ago that I don't think she ment for me to hear. She was talking on the phone to a friend of hers and what I heard was:

"yes, and I met my son's girl friend..."

silence

"yes, girl and if they got married, they would have some pretty babies..."

Come on now..:) don't tell me that you didn't at one point of that show think of trolls when you saw them...:p What kept those two girls on tv is that they were smart (remember lines) and have personality, and they knew how to play up the studio audience.

Epitome,
That is craziness!! How can a woman be so focused on the looks of her child that she is willing to excuse this kind of silliness from these men? Loco I tell ya!

Sad to say but I do know of women who want to marry a man who has certain kinds of physical qualities b/c they want their children to look a certain way. I always thought that only slow people with relic-like thinking felt this way and was surprised to hear this sort of sentiment from these particular women.

Say it again!

Sadly, my older relatives are colorstruck like that. My greatgrandmother, Nana told me that my ex-boyfriend was too dark. So I gave the example of my cousin's boyfriend who she loves but the boy is BLUEblack. My Nana said, "Well Monique can get away with that, she's yellow...you are too dark, you need to find a lighter man." I was kinda upset, but I figured that that's how they grew up back in the day (she's 87), and she doesn't know any better. I asked her if she would rather have (hypothetically speaking) dark-skinned pretty babies or lighter ugly babies for grands...she said she'd rather have okay looking caramel babies, and they didn't need to be any darker than me! HELLO, I ain't that dark!

I'm sorry, I've gone off on a tangent...but yeah this bugs me also. I have a coworker who only dates people of Latin descent because she says she wants a "pretty baby". Her ex-husband is Puerto Rican and although her son is gorgeous, she said that if she ever remarried, she wanted her future kids to come out "cute and favoring him".

SaavyDiva is that you??? LOL. I didn't recognize the new username.

Actually, the people who made this comment to me were referring to wanting to have children with a certain grade of hair. Maybe she also doesn't want to have dark children but decided not to inform me of that since I'm a choco honey. LOL

Yes, 'tis I!

Yeah, my ex-'prospect' made a comment along the lines that I had 'just made the cut' as far as my skin color, of course I was like  And I hate the "good hair" comments, of course since I am perm-free I am like soooo my hair is bad?
