Good News

So my sorority advisor and teaching assistant from my department tried applying for jobs thas we as students have been applying for.

Personally I have been applying in the pharmaceutical sales area and have dropped my resume so may times that I have lost track. Feeling my frustration she did the same and after no luck, she helped me search and apply for more positions. As a last resort she contacted a close friend at a pharmaceutical company and passed along my resume and cover letter.

After weeks and weeks of no news I e-mailed her friend on Monday, a week later she replied and said she hadn't forgot about me, but that their company has been out on vacation (mind you they have had my resume for a month now) But anyways she said she is more than willing to answer my questions and that HR has my info and will be contacting me by the end of the week and that in the mean time to contact her at my earliest convenience to discuss some stuff :)

YAY!

And if any of you have contacts in the pharamceutical field I will be more than willing to take full advantage of them :) LOL

Cool

I was working at a Medical Clinic for a few months (mostly filling out insurance paperwork for patients).

Drug Reps (if thats what your job is) seems like they dont have it most.

The majority of the ones that visited our clinic had a company car (with a gas card), an expense account (usually for buying the doctors lunches) and tons of cool marketing material (my desk is covered with pens, stickies, clipboards, etc....you name it...they make it).

Here is my advice to you from the administrative side (at least from my clinic's experience).

I'm sure the company likes you to be a go getter, but I would not reccomend being over agressive. I actually had to BAN 3 drug reps. Well...I would let them into the office..but magically our office would "not need their samples" and they wouldnt be able to schedule meetings with the doctors.

Be nice to everyone, especially the office staff becuase they are the front line of defense when you enter the practice.
Most of the drug reps that I met were very personable and sociable. They could talk about anything with anyone. The front desk people remember those people and when our doctors wanted to schedule a lunch to discuss a new drug...guess who's business card was magically on top of the pile!

Be professional. I hate to beat this "lunch" thing to death becuase I know its different at every office but when you schedule to meet with a doctor, dont just blow it off, or come in at the last minute to call it off. Understand that that a doctor's time is valuable...they could be helping a patient, learning about other drugs or playing a round of golf LOL..

This is all from my limited view of working at a small (but backed by a very prominent hospital) practice. If anyone disagrees with anything I've said, please do not hesitate to jump in!

Best of luck with your job search, I hope it works out for you!
