Rushing Spring?

I am just wondering what sororities are rushing in spring. Also I was wondering if someone could give me advice on whether rushing in spring is a good idea if all the sororities hold rush in fall?

Do you go to Arizona State or Arkansas State?

you won't get to see all the houses if you rush in the spring, but there will also be a whole lot less pressure because it is informal. I don't know if I would have wanted to rush in the spring though, because you don't get to see all the houses.....and I personally would always have looked back and wondered if another house could have fit me better. BUT, formal rush is VERY stressful (IMO.....I even broke down crying to my rho chi on the third day of rush), and at informal rush, you get to know the girls a little bit better in a more casual setting.

So....there are pros and cons to both!!!

I guess going through informal (spring) is good if you know which group(s) you know you want to pursue or if you know which group(s) are 100% not for you.

I go to Arizona State.

ASU317, usually the first week of school all the sororities that will be doing spring recruitment will set up tables on the mall (the one above Hayden Library). If I recall, at most only about 5 houses, if even that, made quota for fall rush, so most will probably be doing spring recruitment. I obviously cannot guareentee this being the fact that I graduated from Arizona State a year ago this past December.

My best suggestion is to go to the greek life website www.asu.edu/mu/greeklife/index.htm and contact the greek life office for more information on spring recruitment. Unfortunately the website has not been updated recently as it has fall recruitment information still posted.

Another suggestion I have is to look up the chapters at ASU, their official websites, so that you have a better idea of what the sorority is about. See with spring rush it is very informal and you attend the houses and their parties that you want to attend. The ASU greeklife website under Councils and Chapters will actually give you links to all the national sorority websites.

Just an FYI for you the following chapters are at ASU:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi

If there is any thing I can help with or questions I can answer please feel free to PM me. Also keep us posted on your rush experience!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!!

Does anyone know which ones would be doing informal or a best guess of who it would be? I was just curious or maybe ASU317 could fill us in later. Good luck!

My best guess is that AXO and AGD will be doing spring recruitment and I also know that KD will be doing spring recruitment....

I know that Alpha Phi, Theta, and Chi O will not be doing it.

Arizona State is expected to have a larger spring recruitment than usual this year because houses are losing members from their first large pledge class, 2000.
ADPi hasn't participated in Spring Rush the past 2 years, but even though we made quota during fall recruitment, we lost a lot of seniors. We are really excited to be participating and the new Panhellenic VP of Membership is in our house (actually that position has been held by ADPi for 3 years in a row!), so we cannot wait to see how it goes.
I believe that for Spring Recruitment 2004 most houses will be participating except Chi-O because they dont initiate members until spring. Also Theta and Alpha Phi are well above total.
Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta,Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, and Delta Gamma need girls. Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi have never participated in it in the past 3 years, but might.
One thing that is hard about Spring Rush is houses can only take enough girls to reach total. For example, our house may have 8 spots to fill to reach total (100), so during rush we may have 30 girls go through but we can only take 8.

Is spring NPC rush at ASU formal?

ASUADPi 01-05-2004 11:41 PM

Although I never affiliated ADPi once I transferred to ASU, I don't believe Spring rush is formal. I say this from the alumna perspective and the fact that I helped with a few spring rushes.

Do you really think that many sororities will be participating in spring rush? When do they usually announce that they will be part of it and how can I find out officially? Any suggestions regarding peferences or things that I should do?

Colleenie 01-06-2004 01:26 AM

Your best bet is to contact the greek life sorority advisor. I believe she has an office at adelphi commons. When I attended ASU, the advisor would have a list of all sororities holding informal recruitment events as well as the dates, times, and contact information for each participating sorority. Then you could choose which events you wanted to attend.

ASUADPi 01-06-2004 01:31 AM

I have to agree, contacting GreekLife is your best option. They will be able to give you more detailed information.
also, asu317 I responded to your pm. :)
