Debit/Credit Card Fraud...dontcha love it?
The lowdown:
Late Monday night, I discovered that my ATM/debit card was missing from my wallet. I figured that I had accidentally left it in the ATM I visited that night. Called my bank to report it lost, which must have been within a 2 hour time period. I haven't been able to go by the bank because of the holiday and the rain until today because I had to deposit some checks. Went there and found out that my account was overdrawn with purchases made after my bank had placed a stop on my card. My card was blocked Monday night, and there were purchases on Tuesday and Wednesday...wtf? Judging by the account activity, the moron might have been a female -- purchases were made at Arden B., Bebe, American Eagle, and get this -- TIFFANY'S! There were also transactions and two other restaurants. Altogether, the purchases totaled to over $300. Add to that my usual direct debits that go to pay my bills, and no wonder why my freaking account was negative. Despite having "SEE I.D." on the back of my debit card, this f*&ker still used it. I've lost my card before and I thought I was okay because I reported it ASAP so I didn't think much of it and assumed that my account balance would have still been what it was last Monday since I didn't withdraw anything. Now I have to wait...the bank's investigators are aware of the situation now but it'll probably be a good 45 days before I hear anything. This island is small, so if I ever find out the identity of the assholes who did it, they'd better watch out. Happy freaking 2004 to me. |
Sandy, hopefully, the bank's ATM camera will be able to identify the twerp!!
Good luck!! |
Sweetie I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't believe that after you reported it, they could still use it.
My family is no stranger to credit card fraud. On our first trip to Cancun, someone used our CC to buy $3000 in lobsters. A few months ago, my dad left his CC at a Radio Shack. They SENT IT to mexico, where they made a physical copy of the card and swiped it at gas stations all over the state of Quintana Roo. They also purchased $600 in fucking robots. Also, about 2 years ago my CC got stolen out of the mail. The dipshits bought watches from Cartier, bags at Louis Vuitton, 10 Movado watches, and to cap off the decadent evening, DINNER AT DENNY'S FOR 11.99. Classy. |

I always tease my customers who leave their cards on the counter to not do it again or they'll be paying for a whole lot of pink sweaters - and one of them joked that if that's all I'd do with her credit card, she'd make me an authorized signer because I'd be better than her daughter! :p |
ATM cameras generally aren't good for identification. Someone got $400 an ATM using my brother's card and they never figured it out. Though the stores will probably have much better footage.

Sorry, that sucks. THe bank should have known it wasnt you. There were nto big bar tabs. That would have told them it was you, lol.
I get bottles of asprin sent to me by my bank after a hard weekend of bar tabs. |
My mother's American Express card was stolen. She called them and they told her someone had charged over $7500 in jewelry. She wasn't responsible for the bill. The person was caught and arrested. I hope they remove these charges from your card, Sandy. :)

I have had to report my card missing. The bank told me if there were unauthorized charges they would redeposit the funds from any transactions that took place from the time I lost the card. If the investigation showed the charges were mine, the funds would be debited from my account. They also told me if any checks were accidentally returned they would pay any fees I incurred from that the company I wrote the check too, along with an explanation to the company that it was a bank error.
Good luck getting it all straightened out. -wendi |
