Most useless/stupid present you got this year

I was writing my thank you notes yesterday like a good little girl (a good little girl who wants her relatives to send presents next year too!) and I was thinking about some of the stuff I got and the likelihood that I would ever really use it.

Main example: My neighbor gave me a phone card in the graduation card she sent me. I have a cell phone with nationwide long distance, a gazillion daytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends. I am just never going to use this card. She's a sweet little old lady and I know she meant well, but I don't know what to do with it. My brother graduated too and he got a Border's gift certificate, not fair.

What's the most useless thing you all got this year? I keep thinking of Ralphie's pink bunny costume in the Christmas Story movie.

My sister gave me these two little fuzzy purple hearts that you hang from the rearview mirror of your car, and they've got a cord running from them which plugs into the cigarette lighter so that they light up. Kinda tacky...but that's just right up my alley.

My 18 year old cousin recently received a set of Encyclopedia Britanicas from his maternal grandmother. My most useless gift was a pencil/pen/writing set that was designed for kids in elementary school.

I got a pen that has a built in radio.

I kid you not.

I good useful presents this year. Two years ago I got an MP3 player that I still have never used. It was an expensive waste of money. I don't even know where it is. Oh well. Maybe I will use it one day.

I got an old lady purse. It's a nice bag, but i would never carry it. I also got a scarf, not the cashmere keep you warm kind, but the decorative polyester kind. That scarf was so ugly I can't believe anyone would think I would wear it in public.

I got, as usual, the gift I hate most:

Lotion.

Anytime you have no idea what to get for a woman, what do you get her? Lotion, or crap from Bath and Body Works. Now, some of my friends absolutely love lotion. I think it's slimy and I don't have dry skin, so at this point, with 5 bottles of BBW lotion crowding my bathroom, I'm really sick of getting it.

The best was the year my aunt and uncle bought me tea bags. Not even nice ones. Just like a $3 box of tea bags. What gives?

My grandmother knitted me this really colorful scarf and hat. It's got every color of the rainbow and it's really tacky. I live in Florida...when will I ever need a scarf or hat?

BBW has a liberal return/ exchange policy. If you don't want to re-gift the lotion, you can take it to the store and trade it for some shower gels, or candles, or aromatherapy goodies.

Sorry but that is funny. I sympathize.

I got a purse.
Okay, I am into the leopard print stuff, so my grandmother gets me this VELVET LEOPARD PURSE.
WITH BROWN AND CREAM FEATHERS COMING OUT OF THE TOP.
My entire family thought she was on crack when she bought it. And NONE of them tried to stop her. I mean, I know she meant well and she knows that I LOVE leopard stuff but come ON.

Can I say something really bitchy and mean about presents? My husband's grandmother can knit beautifully. So ever since we've had kids she sends them a handmade blanket or sweater every year. That sounds nice, right? And the thought is there. But...she always uses this cheap, crappy acrylic yarn which produces itchy, scratchy products. The stuff comes out of the washing machine bone dry, for goodness sake! Scary.

I know that she doesn't have any money worries, so it's not like she's trying to save money on yarn so she won't have to eat cat chow, so I wish she'd start using nice cotton or wook yarn in the future.

Oh, and one more thing...the knit pieces always come packed in store boxes that surely have been sitting in her attic for years (and years!). They have that musty "old folks" smell to them and the odor spreads to the knits. And I'm not kidding when I say I have to wash them twice to get the smell out.

Thank you for letting me bitch :)

Be glad that you still have a loving grandma that is willing to knit you something for Christmas. Mind you, once she's gone, you would realize how you never said enough "I love you"s to her.

This is my personal experience, and I don't want people to trap into the same situation I had. So while you can, say something appreciative to people you loved/loved you.

:) Cheers, happy holiday

Maybe you can buy her some nice yarn.

Sorry:D
