creative lil sis/new member gift ideas
My SAI chapter starts Rush as soon as Xmas break is over. Our chapter is going to grow(we are expecting 20+ new members, and there's only around 10 of us!), and each sister will have about 2 lil sisters this time around. The way we work it is during big/lil week, you leave a gift for your lil in the music office(we're a music sorority) every day and right after Pinning(when they find out who their big sis is), we give them baskets with stuff.
I LOVE making gifts instead of just buying stuff, partly because there's not much merchandise out there for us, and partly because making stuff is so much more fun! I'm looking for some creative, unique ideas for homemade lil sis gifts. So far, I've made: --framed copy of our Symphony --an SAI mug(I bought one of those mugs from the hobby store where you color the paper inside...I took the insert out, printed out a nice insert, and made an SAI mug)with packets of tea and cocoa inside --painted wooden boxes Any other neat ideas? If it helps, we are a music fraternity for women, our colors are crimson and white, and our symbol is the red rose. Thanks guys! :D |
I love big sis/lil sis stuff!!! :D
I made my lil's ( I had two like you will ) scrapbooks. I got them at Micheal's but they have some at Wal-Mart too that are under 10.00. Then I added just a few stickers and a picture of them and me at random events. Both of them have added on to it, and all I did was start it! This year for Christmas I got clear glass vases and decorated them with paint markers. I filled them with candy and those lil' glass beads or you can add popor - ree (however you spell it). I got this year mascot stuff, so if you have a mascot look for that. And one of my lil's made me a fleece blanket. Good luck!!!! Getting a little sis is sooo exciting!!!! |

One thing that I did for my lil sis was decorate picture frames, and I did it two ways. I used those plastic framesand decorated them with paint markers. I also used the little letters and shapes that you would put on a paddle and put those on a frame. You could use any time of frame, other paints, ribbon, etc... And this way, they can display their future memories in them too!
I also made her a "Chi O going out kit"...it was a small, clear caboodles makeup box that I decorated and filled with different things like mints, lip gloss, etc... Oh, my big sis bought a lil teddy bear holding a heart and wrote our greek letters on it for me. You could do that or find one with a t-shirt to decorate. I know that a girl in my pledge class made a candle for her lil sis. I don't know where you could get it, but she bought a kit to make gel candles and a martini glass from Urban Outfitters and made a candle using our colors. A lil sis actually made "I love my big sis" and "I love my lil sis" shirts that she wore and then gave her big one during revealing. Hmm...that's all the ideas I can think of for now cuz we've done some creative homemade things in the past. I suppose you could decorate a lot of different boxes, frames, etc... |
Feel free to "steal" ideas from the Pi Phi forum!

ideas
lets see... i haven't taken a lil yet- but its a big deal in the sororities at my school and i've seen all the sororities stuff so there are a lot of ideas. generally- after they get in- we make a pillow- and get letters cut out (you can do this yourself or get them made- depends how much money and work you are willing to put in) and glue or stick them on(if you get them made they come with a sticky back) usually diagnally down whatever- and put her name on the front- and a poem on the back- or a design with her pledge class name etc... they are a lot of fun- i have two... we do candles- just buying whatever candles you like and puffy painting them- you can do cups- i have a whole bunch of cups from my sisters- just cups fromt eh dollar store or wahtever (or beer mugs!) and paint marker them or puffy paint- its a lot of fun- and i always think of my big whenever i drink out of them- you can do those frames where its a big square with little pictures inside them and around the frames you could write like "date party" "formal" etc in puffy paint with swirls or stars- they look really nice and you can hang them on the walls- you can get all kinds of frames from like marshalls and stuff... i'm big on scrapbooking- you can email me (empiregirl@msn.com) if you want help with how to put the fabric and batting on the outside so its kinda puffy and i usually put a poem or soemthing on the outside and get all kinds of fun paper and markers and you can start it for them- maybe doing like a collage with their names on the first page or a picture of you guys or your family line.... hmmm we usually do theme baskets- pink- leopard print- angel- princess- barbie- something they like a lot--- whatever- if you do it right- you can do a few small things or a whole bunch of little things- its so fun! esp if you are crafty- even putting in stupid stuff like coloring books and crayons- games- anywya- i've rambled for too long- if anyone has questions- feel free to email- hope it helps some:)

I have a little this semester and my first gift that I got her was a pink tub filled with various "pink things" that reminded me of her. My second gift was a painted picture frame that I painted pink (her favorite color and one of our sorority colors) I put our sorority name in wooden letters and her name as well (these on the top and bottom) down the left sideI wrote "Lil Sis" and on the right side I wrote "Big Sis" both of these in a paint pen. My lil can use this as a bulletin board in her dorm room.

A brother in my fraternity made a pin box for her little's pledge pin. If that pledge is initiated, the big will take the box back and decorate it further w/ our colors and letters.
Right now, it's adorable. I can't wait to see what she does to it after initiation. |
