Happy Boxing Day/Shopping Day to my fellow Canadian Greeks!
Boxing Day in Canada is pretty much the number one shopping day of the year (just like the day after Thanksgiving in the US). Boxing Day, however, is traditionally a holiday. In the UK, way back when, it was the day that servants went home to visit their family (fellow Canucks, please correct me if I'm wrong!) and were given a small gift from their employers. I'm in Hong Kong right now, so I don't get to go shopping today :( I'll be back in Toronto on Monday though, in time for New Years!!!!

Taualumna,
I am not sure of the tradition behind Boxing Day, but I never go shopping today either. Boxing Day is traditionally the day my whole (extended) family gets together. My grandparents spend Christmas at my house and then on Boxing Day all the aunts, uncles and cousins come round to celebrate Christmas. I would hate to go shopping today anyways - it will be way too crazy - no matter how good a deal you get. |
I never go shopping on boxing day...until today. I personally think it's insane, and now I know why!
I went to best buy this morning to get a DVD player. It was packed, I found the DVD player as soon as I walked in. I picked up everything I wanted in 5 minutes, but I was in the store for an hour because the line up to get to the checkout counter was sooooooooo long! I only wanted to go to get the good deals. I got my DVD player for 50 bucks. But never again will I go shopping on boxing day! |
