Tulane?

Hey girls! I am going to be going to NO for New Years in a few days and I thought that there was maybe a chapter at Tulane. Me and some other AOII's are going and would love to drive past the chapter houses, I hear they are beautiful in the south!! Thanks!

According to our website, there are 4 chapters in Louisana, but none are in New Orleans. They are at Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisana Univ., Univ. Louisana Lafayette, and Univ. Louisana Monroe. I don't know if any of those are on your way to New Orleans or not, and I don't know if they have houses, but I am sure someone on GC can fill you in.

I think Sophie Newcomb was absorbed by Tulane, right? So, that's our Pi chapter. Unfortunately their charter is being held in trust at this time.

Have fun in NO anyway!

Yes Pi Chapter, where my grandmother was an AOII new member, has their charter held in trust. A few years ago they tried to come back but it just didn't work. Tulane is a very liberal university, therefore the Greek system has diminished in the past 20 years. I know this because the majority of my family went to Tulane. I just found out my great-grandmother (my grandfather's mother) and great-aunt were both Theta's at Tulane back in 1919 and 1921! Anyway, I think they sold the house on Broadway off of St. Charles Ave. And to be honest, the houses at Tulane are nothing like those at Ole Miss, LSU, or any other big Southern University. They are more like houses that a family would live in. Most of the houses are on Broadway and I drove by there this past Monday to go to the Campus Bookmart on Broadway. They still sell AOII stuff. One of Nu Beta's members, who is from New Orleans, her mother was one of the alumnae who had to close the chapater a while ago, she said it was a very sad time. I have some old Tulane Yearbooks here, with Newcomb in it as well, and the AOIIs were very strong at Newcomb/Tulane back in the day. I know for a fact that the New Orleans chapter is very strong and they would love to have Pi reopen one day. I know the New Orleans Alumnae and Baton Rouge Alumnae would also like for the LSU chapter to reopen. My mother's friends were AOIIs at Tulane and LSU and I know back in the 1970s they were very good chapters. Well, that is what I know. Oh and just go to Broadway off of St.Charles and you can see from Greek houses. There are a few off of Broadway too.
