HBO: Angels In America

Did anyone watch this? I watch the entire first part and then only caught pieces of part 2. Pretty phenomenal...I'm hoping this will come out on DVD soon. I understand how it could be kind of controversial, so I was just wondering what others thought....Talk amongst yourselves....

I've read both parts of the play, and I can't wait to watch it now that I am home and have HBO again. I love Tony Kushner's work, and I have always been fascinated by the early 80s and the social response to the AIDS crisis.

I didn't see this (no HBO) but I wish I had. I read "Millenium Approaches" for my freshman year theater class and we had to stage and act in a scene for our final project, so I got really into it. It would be cool to see it in television format.

This is a great movie. The writing, acting, and special effects were amazing. I really enjoyed it. I can understand how it would be controversial with the religious aspects, but I didn't think there was anything offensive. I think it will be coming out on DVD sometime next year.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Usually I can't commit to watching movies with more than two parts but it was definitely worth it. The scene with Roy Cohn playing dead to trick Ethel into singing and Ethel and Louis saying the jewish prayer for the dead was so powerful. It was funny when Ethel added that last line and Louis said it out loud. There was absolutely no bad performances in this movie. I do feel that the guy who portrayed Prior should have also been nominated for a Golden Globe because he was great too. It sucks that he was the only one out of the main cast to not get a nomination. Jeffrey Wright as Belize was phenomenal. He won a Tony for that role and judging by his performance in this movie it was well deserved.

I've never met him, but I have met his father. I started watching too late, so having missed the first part, I was a tad "lost". I might have been really impressed if I had seen it all.

The ending left me like "WHAT?" It seemed to set up the second part of the trilogy perfectly though. I guess I may try to catch it again from the start.

Side note-The La. papers carried an interview with him and he talked about how unhappy some of his HS memories are. (He is homosexual) Tony attended a private Catholic school. Many things in the play represent different parts of his life experiences. So no class reunions for him.
