With the ebbs and flows in greek systems, Phi Mu at one time had many more chapters in California.

We are strongest in population in the southeastern region of the US...

I think you will find that most NPC groups are stronger in some areas of the country than others. A lot depends on where they were founded and where their Headquarters have been. This is an opinion, not a scientific fact. One of the groups that you have mentioned as being strong - Tri Sigma - has no chapters in my state. It's just a matter of geography.

SSS has a great showing farther north, though -- for example, they were first in Alaska. FM is definately strongest in the south, though. If you look through the other threads you'll see a pattern -- some of the "southern mainstays" over and over again. Usually if a group is really strong in the south, it's not as strong elsewhere (and vice versa.) I think because sororities tend to take on a specific "flavor" which is more likely to appeal to ladies looking for sisterhood either in the north or the south.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that Tri Sigma isn't strong just because they have no chapters where I live. As I said, my opinion is just that, not based on anything scientific. I was only trying to point out that just because, for instance, Phi Mu has only one chapter in California, does not mean they are not strong in other states. For every group, it is strictly a matter of where you live.
