My lists pretty much match yours, Silver. Except I'd add to my favorite list Bruce Springsteen's rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and Stryper's (remember them??) cover of "Winter Wonderland." (I saw the latter live years ago--blew the doors off the nightclub they played at!)

But for the hate side, I hate most of all when Christmas songs are played starting November 15. Jeez louise, people let's get through Thanksgiving first!

On the good side, one of our radio stations is dedicated to holiday music for a few weeks up through Christmas. If you're in the mood, you switch it on. If not, you switch it off. Nice and easy!

Stryper

Add,
I do remember Stryper's cover of Winter Wonderland....
Do you remember David Bowie singing with Bing Crosby right before his death in a Christmas duo? It was odd to say the least. What a strange pairing!
:)

I even remember the video on MTV!

At the time they were a strange pairing, but lately a lot of pop/rock artists are branching out into different kinds of music. Maybe they started a trend.

OK, I'm going to admit for a second that I listen to Air Supply.

Please get the chuckles and guffaws out of your system.....now!

OK, anyone heard their Christmas tune "In the Eyes of a Child" on A/C radio?

Air Supply

Add,

I admit, I am an Air Supply fan, too! Just envision, big earphones attached to a huge stereo listenning to Air Supply records!

You are right about the pairings. Remember the Nat/Natalie Cole Unforgetable with Natalie superimposed into an old television show?

Another hated holiday song is Porky Pig singing Blue Christmas. What were they thinking?

Yuppers. Digital technology that did that was still brand spanking new and everyone wanted to be the first kid on the block to show it off.

I'm very grateful this Christmas that I didn't see that one. Please, have mercy and do NOT send me the MP3. <g>

Some of my favorites are

"Mary, Did You Know?"
Pretty much the entire "It's the Thought" cd by Twila Paris
"O, Holy Night"
"Hark the Herald Angels Sing"
"O Come, All Ye Faithful"
"I Wonder As I Wander"
"The Holly and the Ivy"
"Angels We Have Heard on High"

I can't handle that song about the shoes - I start sobbing like a baby because I miss my daddy so much.

Funny story: my brother is a lot older than I, and I was taken to his Junior High Christmas Program. It was the first time I heard "Angels We Have Heard on High" and I just loved it! For years, I would beg to hear "The Oreo Song" and nobody knew what I meant until I finally sang, "O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ero! Jesus loves me be-st!"

My family will never let me forget it!

Another song

Honeychile,
Have you heard Christmas Carol about the little girl wanting a family for Christmas?
It makes me cry...

No, and I'm glad. I finally broke down & talked to my pastor about the confusion I've been having with my fiance & all, and my pastor said (he is too young to be so wise!), "how long has it been since your father died?" I told him, and he said, "Honey, Honey - you're a counselor. You're still mourning!"

It was if the veil had been removed from my eyes. I'm letting myself cry more openly now, and not making any big decisions until I'm more comfortable with life without my daddy. Now, to get my fiance to understand!

I now feel obligated to lift up the spirit of this thread again!

I like the MacKenzie Brothers' version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, and the version that has different people stressing out "My In-laws! I hate them!" I laugh each time I hear them.

I like "All I want for Christmas is a real good tan" by Kenny Chesney. Sooo relaxing ...

I don't like most holiday songs. We've got a 24 hour holiday station on our intercom radio at work. Luckily I can turn my speaker off. Anyway, my favorites are "Oi to the World" by the Vandals and "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses.

Kinda old, but I really like "A Colorado Christmas" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

"All along the Rockies you can feel it in the air,
From Telluride to Boulder down below,
The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere,
Is a quiet Christmas Morning in the Colorado Snow..."

AOIIsilver 12-16-2003 03:08 PM

Another holiday favorite

I simply adore Tender Tennessee Christmas by Amy Grant and/or Alabama.
Makes me dream of snowy Christmas mornings at my grandmother's house...
:)
