For all educators/education majors

Hello Everyone, Happy Friday!!!
(Can you tell I'm looking forward to the weekend!!!! :-p )

I don't normally post much, but I just have a question for mainly educ. majors/current teachers.

I was just curious as to what fellow education majors/educators thought of the New York City School District...I'm thinking of applying there to teach... (I'm a special education varying exceptionalities major)

So far I have heard various replies....ranging from the "Oh my cousin teaches there and she likes it" to "Are you out of your damn mind?!"

Thanks in advance!

I can't answer that question, because I don't know anything about that district. Even if I did, I would still tell you...

YOU HAVE TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS FOR YOU! One can always offer his or her OPINION, but that is something that YOU are going to have to pray about. NOT only regarding this district or this situation, but ALL with everything...

GOOD LUCK! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

PrettyPetite-

I am an elementary school teacher on Long Island. I thought this site might help you out:
http://home.digitalcity.com/newyork/...=elem&state=ny

If you're not elementary, you can just check out the middle/high schools. If you know of any specific schools, or just to check out the school districts, this will hopefully help you. I have used the site before.

NYC is NOT easy to get into in the eastern part of Queens and several other sections. People are often surprised by this. Yes, NYC does have disadvantages, but it might be just the challenge you are looking for to make a difference!

Good luck!

BTW--if you are NOT city certified, you must go to Brooklyn to get fingerprinted and apply for licence(s) depending on the grade level. (ex: K-2 is one licence and 3-5 is a whole 'nother one! Your special ed might be even ANOTHER license!) If you are state certified you CANNOT teach in the city w/o city certification.

Good luck! If I can be of any help, just email me!

I checked the link about the New York City schools, Does anyone out there know where I can access, the Queens schools listings, preferably elementary or middle schools. I will be entering the board of ed in a year but not as a teacher but as an occupational therapist. Any help will be appreciated
