Best Hotel in New Orleans?

Anyone here familiar with New Orleans? Mr. KR and I want to take a long weekend there in January and I want to it to be an awesome, memorable trip so I'm looking for some ideas as to which is the best hotel there.

Thanks!!!

Windsor Court gets my vote.

Windsor Court Hotel website

300 Gravier St., New Orleans, LA 70130
0.5 Miles South of New Orleans (French Quarter)

At the Windsor Court Hotel our discriminating guests expect the very best, and we accommodate them. Not only are we the best in New Orleans, the Windsor Court was voted "Best Hotel in the World" by readers of Conde Nast Traveler in October 1998. We've been called "one of the most flawlessly elegant hotels in the world."

I stayed in The Pontchartrain Hotel when I was in New Orleans. It's a historic hotel so it's very cozy. It's off of St. Charles Avenue and is right infront of the trolly car rails, so you have easy transportation.

Here's a brief description from Obritz

Mine too. I manage tradeshows for high tech companies and whenever we have shows in New Orleans all the CEOs and industry bigwigs stay there. Quite expensive but memorable.

a few places that stick out in my mind are le pavillion and the ritz-carlton. of course, there are so many nice places to stay in new orleans - you might first want to decide what part of town you want to stay in and then look from there :)

The Quarter House is a beautiful place. I stayed there last christmas. This year I'm staying at the Double Tree Suites. We've also stayed at the Riverwalk.

I am most interested in seeing the mansions. Is that what they call the Garden District? Which of the hotels you all have mentioned are near there?

if that doesn't work go to http://www.neworleans.com - click Visitors, and then Garden District

Garden District is the district with all the fantastic mansions and the universities. It's decently located next to the Quarter. Takes me about ten minutes by the streetcar to get there.

KR,
If you want close to the Garden District then go with the Pontchartrain, old traditional sort of place and very convenient.
If you want really four star then Windsor Court is hard to beat. Actually there are so many really good hotels it hardly matters.
Hope you two have a great stay. Check with the Tourist and Convention Center to see if any of the private homes in the Garden District are open for Christmas season tours.
While you are there you might want to drive up the River Road and do a Plantation Tour.
