So Canada has a new Prime Minister...

Goodbye Mr. Chretien

Hello Mr. Martin

What are everybody's thoughts? I don't like the fact that we can't vote for the PM, but then again we never 'really' can vote for the PM. I think Jean served his time and served it well, he was teflon Jean, but he always had the well being of his nation at heart (i believe at least) Paul Martin is a good man for the job in my opinion. he is a 'Compassionate Conservative' he is fiscialy responsible, but he has the people in mind as well. I think this country of mine (and some of yours) is on the right track.

Well,

seeing as how i'm an AMERICAN and not a CANADIAN i will profess to not know a single thing about canadian politics. I mean this next sentence in the most complimentary way possible when i say that, your country is your country and the politics of it don't concern me much at all.

Instead of being arrogant and trying to tell people in a DIFFERENT country how to vote, or dissect their political leaders, i will say Congrats for Mr. Martin and i wish our neighbors to the North all the best.

I'll agree with Kitso...

I am looking forward to PM as PM. I like the Liberal gov't; I think they have done an amazing job with Canada, but after a decade it was time for a leadership change.

As long as Martin listens to us the way Chretien did, and keeps his promise to help the West more, I think he will be an awesome PM.

And hey, we will actually be able to understand what the heck the PM is talking about, LOL.

I guess Roger Abbot is passing up his PM role to Dan Ferguson - I always wondered how Abbot played Chretien and Bush at the same time, or did he?? Anyways, it's some new fodder for Air Farce.

I've never been a fan of the Liberal party and I never will. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it at this time.
Since there is nothing I can do I'm willing to give him a shot. Let's see how he does.

Well.....

I think he should call an election to "confirm" his position as it were :)

I'll admit that in the beginning I didn't like Chretien, but he won me over by his international efforts, so I hope that Martin continues on the same track (I don't like the fact that CNN and Fox both implied that Martin might reconsider joining the coalition in Iraq).

Kitso,

Look we have disagreed an a lot of things (well alomst everything :)), but I would love to hear your opinion and the opinions of the other GCers from the US.... every viewpoint helps and sometimes it's easier to see things from the outside looking in ;)

Truth.

Chretien was a Trudeau-wannabe jackass. I think Martin is much more capable than him, however, after the inconsistent social policy over the years i don't think i'll be supporting them in the next federal olympics - go bloc quebecois!

I liked Chrieten. I'll miss him. He made North America seem more international. I think the US and Canada should form one government called Federal North America. They'd still be our own countries, but we'd be be like the Europen Union. Only not stupid about voting power.
