Star Wars prequel trilogy: biggest letdown in cinematic history?

A discussion in another board. What are your thoughts?

I agree, I was so hyped when Phantom Menace came out, but was very dissapointed when I left the theatre. Ditto for Attack of the clone.

Bigger than Waterworld?

Waterworld is a triology?

Cut him some slack, he's from Oklahoma ;)

I concurr whole heartedly.

Although, i think i liked Attack of the Clones more than Phantom Menace. I own PM and clones has been on the movie channels a lot lately and i like Clones more. I think because of the scene where you see Anikan first give into the dark side and slaughter the sand people that were holding his mother.

Besides, Natalie Portman is absolutely gorgeous in that white body suit she wears in Clones.

That being said, if the 3rd is anything like the first 2, then yes, the 'prequels' have definately been a huge let down. To me, Lucas is going overboard with all the special effects and the movies have taken on a more video game quality than actual cinema. The first 3 had such an awesome mysticism about them. These 3 seem to be all about what new special effects they can dazzle you with.

KS 361 times for me, Natalie Portman is the living end

I don't think the movies are as bad as some people let on, but they're definately not as good as the originals.

I agree........I like both, but I like the special editions of the original three much better...........my question has always been.......if it's a 6 part space drama (though I've heard from some that 7,8,and 9 have been written but will never be made into a movie) why did they start them at episode 4? why not just initially start with episode 1? (If they truly had been written for years).

The prequel was written recently. But he has the idea for a prequel for a very long time. The prequel background was written along with Ep. 4-6. But, due to money constraint, I guess Lucas felt that Ep. 4-6 had more potential that 1-3. The script to Ep. 1-3 is new.

ah! Thanks for clearing that up for me :)

I would wait for the next movie. If it's like Empire, than this award will go the Matrix, which started off great and went straight into the trash can.

If the movie ends with an Ewok song, I'm going to puke.

Matrix was definately a let down. It started out brilliantly, then it just collapsed.

Godfather 1 and 2 was excellent, the 3rd one sucked bad.

Vicious Rumor

This just in...

The next Star Wars will feature a half hour scene that will contain:

Foreground
Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker lying in a pasture, telling each other how much they love each other.

Mid-Background
Jar-Jar Binks will be performing a solo improvisational modern dance inspired by the two young lovers, and by...

Background
An orchestra and choir of Ewoks singing rythmic love songs that oddly sound inspired by Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra.
