Alpha Kappa Pi
 

Back in 1946 Alpha Kappa Pi merged with Alpha Sigma Phi. Does anybody have any information on Alpha Kappa Pi? The only thing that i can find is about the merger of the two fraternities. I am in Alpha Sigma Phi and think it would be cool to learn about Alpha Kappi Pi.

I culled some info from older editions of the To Better The Man (the pledge manual of Alpha Sigma Phi) which can still be accessed at our chapter's old website at www.ou.edu/student/greek/alpha-sigma-phi . (Sadly, Alpha Alpha chapter went inactive in the fall of 2000.)

As you may remember, portions of the ritual and symbolism of Alpha Kappa Pi were incorporated into our pledging ceremony, and the Sister Pin is essentially the badge of old Alpha Kappa Pi with the letters Alpha Sigma Phi instead. Unlike the mergers with Phi Pi Phi and Alpha Gamma Upsilon, AKPi's was a consolidation, with significant changes to the government and ritual of Alpha Sigma Phi.

I am from the Alpha Tau chapter at Stevens Institute of Technology. Our chapter kind of made its own history a few years ago. From stories of current brothers, the house was down to about 5-8 people and then like the pheonix our chapter rose from its ashes and we are currently 35 brothers strong. I just find it interesting to learn about Alpha Kappa Pi, since thats what the chapter at my school used to be, before they merged. Also its really hard to find information about Alpha Kappa Pi, the main thing i find is the merge between the 2 organizations and the pledge pin which came from Alpha Kappa Pi. If anybody finds more information please let me know.

How come it is so hard to come across information about Alpha Kappa Pi. I've been searching on google for the past few days and can't find anything. I know they merged a long time ago, but there has to be soem trace left behind.

Good to see that the chapter at Stevens Tech is doing pretty well. Unfortunately, it's been years since anyone has ever written a major history of Alpha Sigma Phi. The only two people on the National staff that might be able to help you out in obtaining more info about Alpha Kappa Pi other than what's already available would be our Grand Historian, Bob Kutz and our current Grand Marshal, Scott Grissom (an alum from my chapter). If I had the time (and the money) to spend a few days rooting through the archives in Indianapolis, I'd be in hog heaven! :)

Also check with the guys over at Alpha Rho chapter at NJIT; they were the original Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Pi. Hope this helps.

Looks like it's a local fraternity. The original Alpha Kappa Pi fraternity was founded in 1921 and consolidated with Alpha Sigma Phi in 1946.
