Please Help

Hello Everyone!

I have a question. My brother is currently fighting in Iraq, Tekrit(sp?) to be exact, in the army.

His son was born Nov. 18th and he wants to come home for the holidays to see his son and family before he goes back for another year in Iraq.

The Army has granted his leave for the holiday, in part because of his first son's birth, but the soliders have to find there own way home. Airfare is not paid by the Army.

I know there are some websites, and organizations that help soften the financial burdens for these soliders but I do not know what they are. Can anyone help?

Wendy, I reposted in Chit-Chat!

Hope this helps.

My nephew by marriage is on 2weeks leave. He is flying out of Atl Dec. 21st so he might spend the 20th at our house.

He is with a communications squadron.

Best of luck to your brother!

My son got home Friday morning and will also fly out on the 21st. He is in Military Intelligence.

They changed policy on Thursday that does not require soliders to pay for their transportation for their leave. If this doen't apply to your brother, call Clark Howard. I have heard through my parents in Atlanta that he was trying to do something with listeners donating Frequent Flyer points. It has also been reported on the news here in SC that a Vet here pays for 4 airline tickets each holiday season for a needy solider. Perhaps the base he is assigned to would have info.

For those of you that don't live in Ga., Clark is a guy who hates to spend money and gives ideas on how to save.

AGDLynn,

Which squadron? My father was a commionications officer for 25 years. He was stationed in Omaha, adn Warner Robbins amoung other places. He retired a year ago as a Major.

Thanks for your support BTW.

I ran across this website today. Thought it might prove interesting. Maybe your brother could benefit from this program. I am going to donate some of my miles. :)

Wendy, I have no idea, lol. I think it is like the 118th or 18th Communications Squadron....he is based at Ft. Bragg.

He's spent most of his time overseas. He was offered a post in Washington but he didn't take it. Also, I believe Special Forces was interested but no go.

Warner Robins would have been nice; his folks live near Savannah now.

I did have another cousin who was stationed at Ft. Benning (Columbus, GA) for a while; but now he's selling stocks and bonds somewhere in South GA ;)
