Currently in an Interracial Relationship?
Hey Folks,
I am just curious to know if anyone is currently in an interracial relationship? What is the racial make-up of the relationship? Who is the female and male? What, if any issues have you dealt with? For a while now, I have been aproached by non black men. I have went out on dates with some, but have never been in a relationship with someone who is not black, and I am just interested in your stories. Thanks |
Sorry to crash your board...
But I am in an IR. I am a sistah married to a white guy. I have dated IR for a long time and fortunately never really have had any problems or had people act a fool! There are a few on this board that are in IRs. If you have any questions...ask away! |
Interesting. I have been thinking about IRs, but I don't know if I can really bring myself to do it. Then again, I'm not really having too much luck with brothas. I don't know. I'll have to see how this conversation progresses....

I am also in an IR. I am African-American. He is Puerto Rican. We have had some glares and haters, but that's about it. We don't let it get to us, though. That's really the only problem I can think of at the moment. Just people staring. We have actually had people come to us and compliment on what a cute couple we were, too.

i am in one. i am black and he is white. we have been dating for over two years now, and hope to marry some day. we do get looks from people. and i do get these thoughtless comments from people that really irritate me. it is strange to go to this certain mall here in town that a lot of black people go to. they look at me with him and have weird faces. it could be just me but i do get a little uncomfortable. in the end, i dont care cause i love being with my man. :D

I am in an interracial relationship. This is my first interracial relationship.
I am an African American female and he is a white male. We have been together for over two years and we have a 7 month old little girl. My family is fine with us being together and they accept him as if he was family. His parents are fine with the situation. We really have not run into any serious issues. Where I live currently there is a lot of interracial realtionships, not to say we don't get people who look at us. But when I go home to Cleveland We get more than stares we actually get people commenting on us. I can say that this relationship is no different than any relationship that I have had with a black man. You still have the same problems like not wanting to clean up after themselves, not putting the toliet seat down, and so on and so on. |

When I was single, I was like the UN when it came to dating. I've dated men of several different ethnicities, not just white. |

Right now I am meeting mostly white men because that's who works at my job. I have no problem with that |
i'm in one right now. we have a lot more in common (being greek, engineers, ambitious, sense of humor) that racial differences is minimal.

I'm not in one now, but I have been in the past. I echo the prior posts, the daily drama will be the same regardless of skin color. I find that socio-economic class makes more of a difference than race.
My dad remarried and married a white woman a few years ago, before that, he and my mom [both Af-Am] had been married for more than 2 decades. The funny thing is now when they go places, my white step mom gets more rilled up at perceived racism than my dad. I think sometimes my stepmom is shocked when they get seated in a section of the restaurant where no one else is sitting. When the three of us are out together, people think that she's my bio mom [especially in the winter when i loose my color  ]. At the end of the day, my dad is happier with my white stepmom than he was with my black mom, so I'm happy. Also, she gives me insight into how white america thinks. She's often my lithmus test. Ok, so that post kind of rambled, but the point is, date someone who makes you happy, who ever that may be, and whatever they look like. Good Luck! :) |
rho4life, my husband sometimes acts the same way as your stepmom (getting riled up about racism). My theory is that for the most part they haven't had any first-hand experience with being on the "outside" until they paired up with black folks, and it's a rude awakening for them.

I'm only attracted to black men :)
I'm in one. I'm Dominican and he is Black. Been together for 4 years. I've had looks, but nothing where they approached me or talked to me. I just ignore it and keep on with my biz-ness!

Now that I moved to northern Florida and didn''t get that much sun, so my complexion got MUCH lighter and so now... Most white people guess that I am something other than Black and most Black people guess that I am "mixed," and occasionally get called "white girl" or "spanish girl." Since then, I got my tan back ;) I guess it may be the geographic location as well as my skin complexion that gives a hint of what I may be.
