GLO membership and being a part time student
Is it possible to stay a full member in your GLO if you become a part time student?
|
In KD, in order to be active in an undergraduate chapter, you must be considered full time at your school.
|
Ditto for Phi Sig

I do not know if your GLO will allow that. I know when I was an active at Ole Miss, we had to be full time students.
Some GLO's allow a member to become "inactive.'' I know in ZTA, we do not have inactive status as a possibility. But, you should check with your GLO to see how the bylaws apply to your situation. Good luck! |
Sorry, normal standard is FULL TIME Student. I had pledged a Fraternity and over loaded while doing it! Had to drop Fench!
Oops made Grades was a pledge again till go booted!:D Thank god I got booted! |
Same applys for ADPi, have to be full time.
I suggest that if you are in a GLO and need to go part time just talk to the chapter or chapter advisor and see if you can go inactive for a semester or so. Everyone has personal things come up in their life that need to take presedence. Brianna |
ok, I have a question about this. What if it i sthe students last semester and he/she only need 6 or 9 credits to grad? Would the student have to go inactive/alum or haver to pick up another class (a humanities or some kind) or would HQ see that he/she only needs 2 or 3 classes and let it slide?
and yes I know each Org. would be different, but I want a general idea. |
I'm pretty sure it's a hard and fast rule....
It possible that there are panhel rules about it as well (either local or national). |
We require 6 hours of enrollment.

For Kappa Alpha Theta as is for most if not all NPC orgs, you must be enrolled as a full time student to remain an active member. This doesnt mean however that you are no longer considered a member of your group, or that folks in your chapter or elsewhere will not talk to you, etc. etc.
This has actually been my situation this semester. I currently am taking 9 hours because that is all I needed to graduate and didnt feel the need to take or pay for more than that for the sake of remaining active in my sorority. However, while I have truly missed many things, and sometimes wish I had taken an extra bunny class just to stay active, I do still hang out with my girls and keep in touch and do go to some things......for example, our Rock the CASA philanthropy fundraiser, AOPi LIp Sync Competition, BIg/Lil Night, Initiation, Rush/Recruitment, Bid Day, etc. I cant go to meetings as an inactive member, or things that get paid for through dues that I dont pay as an inactive member such as retreat, formal, and mixers, or playing on Theta intramural teams (league fees comes out of our dues as well). As far as Alpha Phi Omega, I'm not sure on that, I dont think my chapter has really cared or bothered to enforce that if there is such a rule. As for Alpha Kappa Psi, I'm not really sure either but I have a gut feeling that atleast 6 hours are required, to remain an active member. |
I think all NPC orgs require you to be a full-time student.
However, I'm unsure about what happens if you start a semester with enough credits to qualify you as a full-time student but end up dropping a class at some point through the semester that puts you into the part-time student category. |
Same goes for Pi Beta Phi--you must be a full-time student.

Most of my sisters carry at least a full course load each semster, if not more, so we really haven't came across this problem. I know that if you drop a class that puts you undeer 12 credits, you remain active, there are sisters that are known to drop 1-2 classes a semster *that is why none of us are ever getting out of school*. One of my sisters only has one class left in the spring, and she is going to try and go alumnae insteads of going inactive *she should be allowed to as she is in her 10th active semster right now, but SDT's rules for going alumnae probably won't let her*

Yes, there is a need for flexability! But Our members are placed in an Alum Status if so requested!:(
It does depend on each Organization how they want to play it! It really does not seem to come up that often! Thank Goodness! |
