I was about to walk in the foot steps of Soror Moderator AKA2D and SAY NO COMMENT, because we have talked about this sorority and beat it to death already but you bring up a point that I am not sure if we mentioned. I am not sure if they are a part of NPHC. There are only 9 and we know who they are - right?

Respectfully

I know that there were topics posted about them before, but I posted this because of the fact that they were linked with the NPHC by UC Berkeley. I don't know if they are in the NPHC, or if Berkeley linked this org. with it because the sorority is black http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif...

And as I said there are only 9. UC Berkeley must be making up their own NPHC.

Hope you don't mind me commenting on this...I've come across several schools that have an "NPHC" chapter and they include other sororities and frats outside of the Divine Nine. Like LadyAKA said, they probably made up their own NPHC considering we all know who's a part of the actual NPHC (right?) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
But yeah, this isn't the first case of this happening...just sharing what I know. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

They are Canada's first Black sorority, and they do have a website (www.gphid.com)

I hope you all don't mind my posting. I live in Cali--the Gamma Phi Delta at CAL is different than the Canadian Black Sorority, although they share one of the same colors (baby blue) and the same name. The one located at CAL was founded in 1943 as a business and professional sorority. It is not a part of the NPHC, is not a social & service organization and as such, a member of the NPHC can hold dual membership in GPD and XYZ NPHC sorority. Another business and professional sorority we had on my campus in addition to GPD is Iota Phi Lambda (colors green and white I think)--and the same rules regarding dual membership apply to them as well. If you search different search engines, you can find National web sites on both these sororities.

Many campuses, especially public ones, cannot or do not restrict groups who want to apply for membership in an umbrella organzation. I didn't realize that CAL had an NPHC chapter, as I thought it was a black greek council, but...

Hope this helps.

I remember a similar issue being raised on the NPHC listserve (the one created by the NPHC, not the one on Meet Greeks). If I understood correctly, the only organizations allowed to participate in an official NPHC chapter are the chapters of the 9 member organizations. If other organizations would like to participate, then it's no longer an officialNPHC chapter, it's a greek council and should be named as such.
