Need Advice on Pain
Okay, I have this major pain - think Charlie Horse intensity. It's mostly on the top of the one side of my rear, and I've been told it might be my sciatic nerve. It only hurts if I sit, stand, lie down, or breathe.
I did carry a few heavy objects yesterday, which means it could just be a big strain, but damn! I can't remember anything this bad! And I have a pretty high threshold for pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? I have to go to a luncheon tomorrow!! |
anyway you can lay on your stomach and massage it? it sounds kinda wierd but when i get charley horses i just massage it and it usually helps. if the pain is like that then maybe it will help.

I'd try laying on a heating pad OR during the day getting one of those heating creams for it (or now they make those heated patches). That might help.
I also know that 3 IB Profen is doctor's strength. |
Asprin does have anti-inflamatory properties, but the sports doctors around here swear by Advil. You MIGHT need a muscle relaxer...valium works well.
Right off, it does sound like you have pinched a nerve. Gee, it's awful to suffer with every little movement. Rest is your friend, but sometimes you have to make that appointment... |
Thank you SO much for the ideas!! I was finally able to sleep tonight and found out that the luncheon was cancelled! Woo Hoo! Now, I can baby this a little so it doesn't flare up when I go shopping or such.
Thanks again! |
Your pain sounds just like my mom's! She had it in her hip where her psyatic nerve is. I laid on my mom's psyatic nerve for the last month she was pregnant with me. The doctor said she'd always have problems with her hip because of me (I was a real pain in the butt, hehe, ok corny, I know). She took a half of a Lorazapan (a muscle relaxer) every day for the past few days. It has gotten better but she was lifting some stuff in our attic for Christmas decorations. She says it's probably due to the lifting and the cold, damp weather that's hung over our area for the past week or so.
She also sat on a heating pad for most of the time because it hurt so bad she could hardly stand up. |
That is exactly where the Sciatic nerve is. If you really think it is this nerve, you really need to have it looked at as soon as you can. While it's mainly a peripheral nerve (not part of the central nervous system that involves the brain and the spinal cord) and may heal on its own, you need to have it looked at if you still feel pain after a few days.
The link below is a link talking about a pinched sciatic nerve (if indeed this is your problem). http://my.webmd.com/content/pages/4/...tselectedguid={5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348} |
The diagnosis is... a pinched nerve, probably the Sciatic nerve. I'm to: apply moist heat, massage as possible, walk/sit/stand as possible, take muscle relaxers and Advil, and have a little "something" for when that's not enough.
I did get a wonderful "thumper" treatment that worked wonders until I got back out into the cold! Thanks again for the advice! |
The sciatic Nerve is the largest nerve in the body!
Runs from the spine to the Foot! When it hurts, damn do it hurt! See a Chiropractor or take a MD adice and perscription for anti inflamatory! I feel for you trust me!:( |
I have a sacroiliac joint problem that sounds just like yours. The SI is the joint that connects your hip bone to your spine. They are located to the right and left of your tailbone. It's basically a nonmoving joint, but it can slip, which is what happened to mine. I struggled with it for years. It's incredibly painful to walk, sleep, stand, anything. Fortunately, my orthopedist suggested a physical therapist who specializes in SI joint realignment. He fixed the problem in three visits - no kidding and no heavy drugs! I was convinced I was going to have to have hip replacement or something, but just three visits did the trick. Now I'm just sick for how long I let it go on without going to the doctor. Find a good ortho dr. and mention the sacroiliac joint. It could be the best thing you ever do for yourself.
