Scholarship Pearl

Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of your chapters gave out pearl dangles for good scholarship. They mentioned it at LTS this summer and at Founder's Day, I noticed one of the other chapters had some sisters with pearl dangles. I was going to ask them but I completely forgot. So my question is.... Do you give out pearl dangles? What are the requirements to get one? Can you get more then one? And where do you purchase them?

Thanks,
Sara

HI Sara,

Our chapter does give Scholarship Pearls. This past year we gave them out at Sapphire Ball along with Certificates we made up. Any sisters who had already been awarded the scholarship pearl were presented with certificates at the Ball as well. You buy the pearls from CO who orders them from our jewelers

The chapter set the GPA requirement as the average GPA goes up in the chapter we will revise the requirement higher.

Here is what our Chapter Constitution says about it

SECTION 5 The scholarship pearl shall be awarded in honor of academic achievement as an incentive to aim for high standards. To receive this award one must be a junior or higher in good standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. The pearl shall be purchased by the sorority and shall be presented as part of the celebration ritual. Although the pearl may only be awarded once, members shall still be recognized by the ceremony each time they meet the eligibility requirements.

We also give out Scholarship pearls. We do it very similar to Iota Gamma. (maybe its a cali thing ;) ) Anyway...

We give ours to seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They are presented either at Sapphire Ball or at Alum Installation.

The only difference between Theta Mu and Iota Gamma is you are only awarded once when you are a senior; and for all the 5th years in my chapter (like me!) the pearl will be given your graduating year... so since this is my 4th year I wouldn't get the pearl until next year when its time for me to graduate.

I think they are a great tradition to start. We have done ours for about 3 or 4 years now (we are only 9 years old) but a few alum sisters than would have been able to receive one back when they were active prior to 4 years ago have bought themselves one. (which I think is fair)

Oh this is such a good idea! I'm going to ask the chapter I advise if they do this sort of thing, and if not, I'm going to give this gift to graduating seniors!!!! (This could get expensive....15 of them are leaving in May!!) And I'm going to pass this onto my chapter as a tradition to start! I'm so excited!!!!:D

Thanks so much!! I will definately be proposing that to our chapter to put into the constitution!!
