Fraternity rushing question - Need your Advice

Hey guys, I'm currently a Senior in High School. Earlier in the school year, I was seriously thinking about graduating early at semester and starting my freshman year at MU in the spring.

University of Missouri has a very nice greek community. 27 fraternities and 14 sororities. I had always been interested in taking part in greek life, so I filled out a Rush Form (from a strong fraternity here) -- a few weeks later I got a call from a Rush chair of the housr who asked me a few questions, talked to me, was really nice. He invited me to a party they were having so that I could meet some of the guys...

The party was great, turns out that some of the pledges were a few of my friends that graduated from my HS the year before.. Met a ton of people, the house parents loved me, actually ran into a ton of people i knew that night.. everything was going great. I spent the night at the house, had to leave early because i had work in the morning...

So I called up john the rush chair and thanked him for inviting me, and explained why I had to leave so early... Everything was cool, he invited me to dinner at the house later that week.

The day before I was to have dinner at the house, me and my friend Becky were jogging at a field on campus when I got a call from John. He told me that the guys were serenading a local sorority and that if i was nearby, he'd like me to stop by and have fun... So we came, talked a while, watched.. Everything was cool.

The next day, I went to the house and had dinner with the guys. Talked bout the house, sports, etc.. After giving me a house tour, they invited me to a football game they were having later that night..

Later that night, me and my friend Kevin came by to watch the football game.. Was a blast.. We walked back to the house with some of the guys, talking about random stuff and then left because it was a school night..

Since then, I havn't heard *anything* from them and its been atleast a couple of months... I didn't want to be rude and call them up asking why I havn't heard from them, but I'm not sure what other options I have. I have checked out a couple of other fraternities on campus, and I feel this is the one I fit in best. I don't understand why they'd just lose contact like that.

I was curious if maybe it was my HS grades that scared them away. They are horrible, but are a HUGE improvement senior yr.. Can fraternities check up on your HS grades if you havnt applied to college yet? Even if that were so, MU's IFC doesn't have a minimum GPA for rushees.
I don't know what else it could be..

Also -- update: i missed scholarship deadlines, so I will be enrolling in the fall instead. I've got plenty of time and I'm waiting on my application to be accepted...

Questions:
- Why would they all the sudden lose contact when things seemed to be going great?
- Would it be rude to call them up and see how things are going? Also to update them on my enrollment status? Lemmie know.

Any opinions, advice, suggesting would be greatly appreciated.

Thx for reading my longass post!

Is it possible they know that you were not accepted for the spring? It may just be too early for them to be rushing guys for next fall already.

Hey dude.

Well first, good for you in showing initiative.

As far as why they lost contact . . . it probably has little to do with you and if you haven't applied to the college they don't know your grades.

Most likely either the Rush chair changed, or you are just a victim of the fact that we fraternity chapters are not professional organizations with databases and clearly worked out procedured. Probably they had no real follow-up plan with what to do with pre-frosh that are so far away from enrolling.

Also, they really can't have you coming to the house ultra frequently, that would just be a little a strange.

I would send thema letter priority mail. Its in a big envelope so won't be overlooked. CC it to the chapter president and rush chair.

Hello blah blah . . . had a great time blah blah blah . . . want to update you about my enrollemnt status blah blah . . . Please contact me at blah blah . . with your email and cell phone . .

Also. Give the other groups a chance. You don't know them.

OH and take the rest of the year to work out in the gym and get in some spectacula shape . . there are a lot of cute girls to hook up with when you first get to shcool . . you might as well maximize your chances:)

As always, James gives excellent advice.
