Press Conference project

My group in my PR Writing class has to do a press conference on a crisis. Lucky us--- our case study is about 3 boys who were sexually abused by a reverand. The reverand works for a place called Reaching Out Ministries. It's non-denominational, and helps out with families when their houses burn down, canned foods for Thanksgiving, and such like that.

My part is the counselor. We figured the boys ages would be around 9-12. I'm supposed to report on how the boys are doing and such. I'm also gona say that I'm counseling the families as well.

Obviously I'm not a counselor or a psych major, so I duno how or what to say about how these boys are feeling or what is appropriate to say during a press conference. Can someone help me out?

Mini-hijack.

Early on in my broadcasting career, I had a news director who would not cover anything that was called a "press conference," because TV and radio stations don't have presses.

He said he would gladly cover legitimate "news conferences."

Picky, but true. There are still people in the business who feel that way, no matter how silly.

Just mention how tragic and horrific the situation is/was, w/o giving specifics. Refer any questions to the lawyers involved w/ the case. You can not say anything that would help someone identify the victims (ages, names, etc). Use the word "allegedly" when referring to the charges against the reverend. Good luck!!!
