'Tis the Season!
I loved reading the 'All I want for Chritsmas thread' so I was wondering what are you all getting the special people in your life for Christmas?
:D Mom- I got her a DVD/VCR combo.Lord knows it'll take till next year for her to figure out how to use it..lol I usually get her some new perfume too haven't looked for it yet though! Dad- Is a golf-aholic so something in that theme...lol And an Izod sweater..lol.. For real i swear he still has some from the 70's...lol Sister- She is in need of a big girl watch I am pricing some DKNY ones she likes mine so i may get her the same one. maybe some gold earrings she is always losing her earrings. Guy friend-Still don't know either cologne or another Kenneth Cole watch! he also like Fossil so maybe.... Goddaughter #1- She'll be 13 in Jan. 04 and the clothing out there is RIDICULOUS! So I try to stay away from that stuff..lol.. Although last year I got her an Aeropostle sweater and she fell out so maybe a few more of their things. She is in love with Hello Kitty and she is a cheerleader so a few things re: that as well Goddaughter #2- A Savings bond, clothing and some Dora & Bob the builder stuff My cat-She was bad all year so nothing but coal! OK OK a lil catnip! So who's on your list??? :D |
yall crazy, so I'll ask
can I slightly amend the question...
how do you make sure what you give someone in a relatively new dating situation isn't taken the wrong way or sends the wrong signal. situation: I've got a friend that's been dating a really nice person for about 3-4 months now; it's not exclusive but both people are comfortable and enjoying things. I got, errrh, I mean my friend has enough sense to not go out there buying jewelery for Christmas, but he is a "top-shelf" kinda guy and wants to represent, with the gift, what the last few months have been about. ...what does my friend buy for a gift (suggestions)? What do sistahs expect in this sort of circumstance? What would you give the dude in that scenario? sorry for the hijack, LawyerGal. |

lol. ;) Does she like being pampered? Get her a day of beauty or a half day of beauty at a nice salon. Manicures and Pedicures always make my day. LawyerGal - Mr Toocute and I are going low key this year. Only children ( people under 15) are getting gifts this year. I'm getting something special for my parents but I have no idea what it will be. |
I cosign on the pampering day. A gift certificate to her favorite store also works.
|
Momma FeeFee - She wanted some sweaters, but I went on ahead and bought her a new robe, pajamas, and slippers. She need those items more than anything else. I might go back and get her a sweater anyway. She's been really good to me and Lil FeeFee, so it's only fair that I do right by her. :)
Lil FeeFee - I owe her a bangle (I accidently broke the one I bought her 2 years ago). A new pair of earrings, a few outfits (she is soo picky y'all it ain't even funny - but she knows how to coooordinate!!! :p ). Between G-Ma and Daddy, she'll have her fill of toys. Mind you, her b-day is three months later in March. Mr. FeeFee - I don't know if he is still going to be Mr. FeeFee by the time Christmas rolls around (long story :( ) My Sister - Probably a perfume set or a handbag. I have to buy gifts for about 6 co-workers (we have a birthday and Christmas exchange deal going on which works pretty well). Tony - Gift certificates are a God-send!!!!! You CANNOT go wrong. |

My neices, nephews, godchildren (total of 13 kids)...GIFT CERTIFICATES. Traditionally, I HATE gift certificates unless it is for a specific thing (like a massage) because to me it takes no thought. I am totally destressing from Christmas this year so they all get gift certificates. Amount will be based on age, but no one is getting more that $50. Hubby and I are trying to deemphasize gift giving to each other during Christmas to make sure we focus on the right things, but we may get a tread mill or redo our kitchen floors (trying to decide between hardwoods and tile, but I know that linoleum (sp?) has got to go!) Mother in Law is easy...she loves this particular kind of china so we'll probably get her a piece of that. Considering we paid for her to go on a very nice trip recently she shouldn't expect anything! My parents. I'll probably get him cologne, mom will get books. That's it! Tony, while I love being pampered, I would not go with the mani pedi gift. You ...I mean your friend... ;) wants her to be able to look back in 5, 10 years and say remember when you gave me this. My suggestions: If she is a reader, get her a really nice coffee table book If she has a "signature scent" get her a gift basket of lotion, power, etc. so she can layer. Think something that you can do together as well...like a nice picnic basket. Offer to take her on a picnic to "break it in" Luxurious items like a cashmere wrap, leather, fur lined gloves are nice but don't say "call your girlfriends and start picking out your wedding dress!" :D Remember, for me at least, it's really about the thought that is behind the gift, not the amount of the gift. The gift that says I know you and thought about your likes/dislikes mean more than some expensive bauble. My brother in law bought all of his girlfriends NICE diamond earrings one year. I'm sure they all (there were 3) who thought that meant they were the one. Little did they know he went to the store and said "gimme 3 of them". |
So since so far nobody has hit on these 2 lower-tier tickets to the Cavaliers game to see LeBron, I'm guessin' she might not think that was the move to make, huh? :D
But seriously,ya'll are bringing good suggestions, more than I, ahem, my boy, had come up with so far. (and I do apprecite the ideas, I'm learning from this). Eclipse, her personality seems closest to what you've indicated; always trynin' to see the deeper emotional meaning behind stuh....but then that's why she hangin' out with my boy, ain't it :p the female mind... a mysterious yet compelling place, ain't it? |
Mother- A DVD player, Burberry Perfume, and tennis shoes-what do you pick up for someone who has almost EVERYTHING?
Nieces: Books/ magazine subscriptions. My youngest niece calls my mother EVERY Tuesday to read to her. She just turned 6 and I think that's sooooo cute. :) I'll also get her a bunch of Hello Kitty stuff. My oldest niece- hair care items (bows, headbands, hats); CDs Nephew: Spider-Man, Hulk action figures, learning activities. He's 3 1/2. He wants whatever his sisters have. :o Sister: Gift certificate for make-up etc. (um her b-day is 12/21 so she gets a 2-for-2 deal) :p Bro-N-Law: shirt/tie/socks Myself: A purse! :D DVDs, CDs, whatever else I see that I want! I've already received 4 new tires for the car, a tune-up, and oil change so I'm somewhat satisfied.... and ready to hit the road during the holidays :D ;) For my Crew (Sorors): I purchased all of us the SAME Pink and Green Ornament. It will serve as a keepsake. :D That's all I've thought of for now. I'll decide what I'll get the other peeps in my life before Dec. 20th. |
Mommy- Dooney and Bourke Bag, leather jacket and a spa day
niece- porcelain tea party set and books nephew- autographed carmelo jersey and books baby nephew- blocks and books sister- spa certificate brother in law- giftcard |

Also, I went "CIA" and called her best friend and asked her to snoop around in conversation to give me a better sense also. Between the GC peeps and the counter-intelligence operation, I'll work sumthin' out. ...it ain't quite as easy as the 8, 4 year old. A half-hour in Toys R Us --black Barbie section-- and you good to go. ;) |

As for the topic at hand... My auntie had to convince me not to be hateful towards mom-dukes and husband this year and to go in with her on a gift. For them I'm going in on some kind of special damn coffeemaker, that in addition to several other functions, brews a cup at a time. Nana will be getting a tennis bracelet The friend whose name I drew will be getting a gift certificate to Vicky's, what she asks for EVERY year. No manperson to buy for :(, but I was planning on getting P-Diddy a nice watch, as he left his favorite one here...and I didn't like it anyway. I'm going to get myself a day at the spa, complete with massage, pedicure, facial, manicure, etc. I really need this the more I think about it. :D |

It was funny readin' this again! :D "My friend" seriously contemplated the Day-Spa option (but couldn't get enough background info since it's in another city) but ended up going with the perfume option, J-Lo's Still? Boring, I know, but plans called for more expressions, but said friend started "trippin'", so I had to do some lightweight re-assessing ;). Thanks for asking. If memory serves, your hubby was from Cincinnati, right? I'm going to assume he got plenty of Bengals football gear from the Mrs., right?? :D |
