christmas gift ideas for the boyfriend's parents?
 

Does anyone have any ideas for christmas gifts for the boyfriend's parents? They are the people that pretty much have everything, so I don't know where to start? :confused:

what kind of stuff do they like to do? Do they drink? Do they like a specific kind of food? Music? My BF's parents are recent empty nesters and they've rediscovered the joys of cocktails. So I'm getting them two things for Christmas -- a bottle of Danzka vodka (my favorite mixing vodka) and some BBQ sauce from my hometown of Kansas City.

But my biggest piece of advice is to get them something they can enjoy together.

How much are you prepared to spend?

How long have you been with your boyfriend?

Are you prepared to invest some time and make something, or do you just want to buy something?

what about a gift certificate to a new restuarant in the area?

My future mother-in-law collects butterflies (thank you, Lord!!!), so I've been getting her Lenox's Butterfly Meadows pieces each holiday.

But if they don't collect anything, do they have any hobbies? My parents are/were always thrilled with something as simple as a good plate of Christmas cookies! My mom always buys what she needs or wants, so homemade cookies are really a treat for her! Obviously, I never know what to get her myself, let alone what to tell mr. honeychile!

You usually can't go wrong with gift certs if they're general enough. Perhaps a new restaurant in town that's supposed to be a hot spot? But ask your boyfriend what kinds of things they're into or what would make a good impression on them.

One of my friends hand painted ornaments for her bf's parents... they had everything also, and it showed that she put effort into something nice for them... I loved the idea and am going to do the same for my mother-in-law-to-be this year (along with a load of baking, which I do every year)

my bf & i have been together 3 yrs... they live 3 states away, so i'm not quite sure which restaurants they like to frequent there... i will definitely ask him what his rents like... and whatever i do get them will have to not be edible since they live 3 states away.. hehehe


i wouldn't mind making something... but i don't know what to make, and with finals coming up i don't know if i would have a ton of time...

Something VERY easy to do is to just buy some cute picture frames and put pictures of you and their son together in them. Instant mom-pleaser! I did this w/TKE209's parent's, it helped dress up their living room and since TKE209 HATES to have his pic taken it was special for her to actually have nice pictures of him.

You could send a gift basket with edibles from three states away...

Gift certificates for restaurants are great, so are gift certificates for movie theaters.. many of them can be ordered online...

Those are the kinds of things I get my Godparents every year because they have everything too.

If youre going to stay at their house for part of the holiday, I'd reccomend bringing or going out and getting, a bagel box and cream cheese for a breakfast one morning - just make sure it's some place like Panera or Einstein Brothers so their "gourmet" bagels.


Really this is just a good tip in general.
This is something I usually do when I stay at someone's house, even my HS buddies. Everyone I've ever done this with has really appreciated it.

Here's what I was thinking craft-wise. I know you cross stitch - so how about cross stitching something they can use around the house? I'm making cross stitch trivets for my parents and in-laws this year. Or, you could get a couple of those hand towels that have a strip of aida cloth, and stitch up something simple (maybe a monogram or something). It would be nice and simple, but unique and memorable. I'm not sure I would give that as my only gift though... I'm giving the parents and in-laws something besides the trivets (as soon as I figure out what ;) )

You should try Svenska, the Swedish kind. Its much better than Absolut and many other low end vodkas. I'm guessing Danzka is the Danish vodka. If you can spare the money but not too much, try getting 3 Olives. Its amazingly smooth and goes down almost as easy as grey goose. They usually keep it locked up in liqour stores or behind the counter. Its a step up from Stolichnaya and Absolut ( both of whom are a step up from Smirnoff). After that you have Kettle One which is even smoother, but it makes me really tired. I don't get amped up when i drink it. I look at it as seducing vodka, its the type that just makes you wanna have sex and pass out really quick. Everytime I drink that stuff I end up never going out after were drunk, i don't know why but we cant.



Cash-

Since they are 3 states away why not put together a gift basket with food/wine/items from the area you live in or texas in general. That is what I am doing for both mine and my boyfriends parents this year. Its somewhat cheap and is unique and personal all at the same time.
