sad news

Attached is an email that was forwarded to me by a former coworker who is a member of the Stone Mountain/Lithonia DST Graduate Chapter. This email is about a member of that chapter. She sent it to me because she knows I am a Spelman Alumna. My condolences.

The last few months there seems to be more domestic violence than normal. Maybe it's just that it's hitting closer than normal because I knew 2 of the people involved in the recent situations in Atlanta. I'm just at a lost for words right now.... :(

Goodness! And her poor mother must be beside herself to lose her only child and to have a husband in critical condition.

Domestic violence is a horrible horrible issue that so many people are reluctant to acknowledge or extend help to someone who is a victim of it.

It is especially hurtful to children involved. Often times people pass judgment versus listening or offering deeds or words of encouragement to those involved. Unfortunately, it is more prevalent that what one might expect.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Soror Tracci.

i remember her, she was a year ahead of me. this is so sad and unfortunately so common. she's second Spelman alum i know of that has died in this manner and one of several i've read about over the years. meaning, Black women, 1/2 of a power couple murdered by their husbands.
i hope her father pulls through and she and her family are in my prayers:(

This was posted yesterday on another list serv I'm on and I said it yesterday and I will say it here. This is so senseless, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved especially as we near this day of giving thanks.

I am sorry for the loss of your soror! :(

That now dead husband of hers was a frigging coward! REAL men do not put their hand to a woman!
(sorry domestic violence hits close to home....I grew up in that crappy environment)

Again, my condolonces

Re: sad news

I went to the services (memorial and funeral) today. It was beautiful. Her father is on the mend in the hospital and her mother was so unbelievably stoic. Beautiful services, beautiful family, beautiful friends, beautiful everything -- the weather even let up for the recessional.

Reach out to some people who you haven't spoken to in a while. You just never know.
