I really think you should rethink this. A week ago, you were here, asking for advice about rushing again, and now you have come up with this. It’s obvious that you have a desire to be a part of a community, or you wouldn't have gone looking for it in a sorority. So you have, in just one week, put together a fraternity for anyone in the country in college to join? That's not a fraternity, it’s a mailing list. A group of random people scattered across the country is not going to provide you with the friendships and camaraderie you seek. If you are just looking for some friends and a set of Greek letters to wear, you will not get very far this way. If you are looking for something more than that you are going about it the wrong way. If what you really want to start a new fraternity, you should think about what values and principles are important to you, and look for like-minded men and women on your campus. Don't just take anybody that comes along, and make sure that the people who join you have the same goals. Then the group should sit down and take the time to structure your new organization, with careful thought and introspection. When the time comes, you will have an organization you can be proud of, and it will have the things that are important to you.

ODB?

I hope that you ARE conscious that the ODB initials can be cause for ridicule.

I really hope you take BetaRose's advice into consideration and remember that forming a brotherhood and sisterhood takes a lot of work and it's not all fun and games!

If you still don't believe me, check out this thread:

Rush at UCSC

It's an 81 pager that details the tremendous amount of work that goes into starting a sorority.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm completely lost. So....what is the point of your "organization"? I mean, I seen "frat" (c'mon now, all good Greeks know it's -fraternity-) and then I see sorority? Now, if you want coed there's plenty of them out there.

Seriously, this "organization" makes it look like you're just doing it for the letters. I too tried to form a GLO, we were VERY close ona very anti-greek campus, it's a VERY difficult process. Have you gone through your Student Services/Greek Life Office? Sorry, but this "free-for-all" organization looks pretty shaky.

Ginger 12-03-2003 04:44 PM

They must be that one "real" fraternity or sorority... since the rest of us are "phonies" ;)

Maybe a local?

dnagirlatsiuc, if you're serious about this, I'd recommend reading the "Rush at UCSC" thread. It's a first hand account of the organization and difficulty involved getting one of these things off the ground.

Best of luck. Even founding a chapter with the help of a national organization is not an easy task. Founding one without the national blanket organization is even more difficult (if you want it to last more than a couple years that is).

sounds scarey...

wow, you all's posts are kinda scary sounding. I just founded a sorority Delta Zeta Xi on AASU's campus since there was like no greek life at all. I know its pretty hard but from the way you guys are putting it, it sounds like the worst is yet to come. It really sucks cuz like AASU is like a commuter college. We're having recruitment week next week along with an interest group and anoher local Theta Xi Alpha (who have been pretty nasty to us since the begining....but then again, its greek life right?) I am kinda nervous cuz this is the South, GA at that (where people wear G.R.I.T.S. shirts and Dixie Outfitters with the Reble flag. I can't really say anything about that cuz one of the founding sisters is pretty redneck :P)and I do not think there are any m.c. sororities. I guess I'll just wait to see how the outcome of next week is. I am not ready to give up on DXi. Its my dream and I'll work hard to make it come true.

Hats off to those who are trying to establish their own greek orgs. Good luck!
