A troll, at least in GreekChat parlance, is someone who basically spams the boards, posting the same topics over and over and over....again. Trolls also ask inane questions of the GC general population that would be better answered by members of their own organization. Trolls also tend to lie or, at least, make questionable statements. Then when they're questioned, they make up excuses (nonono, I meant THIS, or you misunderstood me). If you read a question from someone and the first thing that goes through your head is, "Is it really possible that this person doesn't know this????", chances are you're reading a post from a troll.

I think a lot of people on GreekChat are cautious because there have been posters in the past who aren't who they claim to be. Not that that's any big deal in the general scheme of things, but no one likes to be lied to.

Hope this helps clear things up! :)

PS moe.ron, who told you you could post that picture of my mother-in-law???

Okay, let's say you're not a troll and someone questions you as if you are. Isn't this probably how you would respond as well? If someone thought I was talking shit or lying and called me on it, I'd probably try to explain what I meant too. I think that's just human nature.

I'm not sure why another thread discussing this subject was deleted (in a different forum) but I can't help but think that people (not anyone on this thread -- just people in general) need to chill. When you're posting on an internet message board, unless you've met other posters IN PERSON, you never, ever know if they are who they say they are. That's just life, and I don't see the point of worrying about it all the time. I personally don't care. If I think someone is a troll, I ignore him or her, rather than wasting precious time and energy stressing out about it and trying to "bust" her. It's too much work for too small a reward, I think.

I completely understand where you're coming from, T., and you're absolutely right. If someone were questioning a statement I had made, I would definitely make an effort to explain myself.

I think the line into "trolldom" is crossed when the person attempts to explain him or herself and the explanation just doesn't hold water. Or when the person maintains that a statement on a given subject is true until someone with a working knowledge of the subject asks him or her to clarify something. Instead of clarification, the person then goes into "oops, you misunderstood me" mode.

BTW, I thought this was a troll:

That's the cute, cuddly, loveable kind of troll, not the irritating internet one :)

Val I love you sometimes in a small internet fashion.

If anyone ever calls you a troll you have my permission to kill them lol.

As far as myself, at 4'5" i am more dwarf than troll thank you.
