Questions about Online chapters
Hey gals, can you help me out?
I am looking into online chapters, but I have a few questions: What online chapters are represented on GC? How do you like your online chapter? Can you tell me a little about your OL chapter (example: how you conduct meetings, secret sisters, programs, etc)? Thanks for your help, sisters! Beta hugs, Nicole |
Online Kappa is well represented here! Jill, Rachel, and I are all OLKappas!
I love OLK. My online chapter is a big highlight of my Beta Sigma Phi experience. I feel so close to several of the women in OLK. I love my OLK sisters, but I also simply like the format. We hold monthly meetings that last about one week. We follow a set agenda. Each meeting ends with a program presented by a pre-assigned member. The programs are usually about a trip or a hobby. The programs are a great way to learn about the sisters. After the meeting, we have "Chapter Chatter" for the rest of the month. Instead of Secret Sisters, we do Special Sisters. This is voluntary. Special Sisters send gifts on birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. It's been a lot of fun. OLK members pay annual dues and a yearbook fee. At first, I was a little unsure about paying dues to a "virtual" chapter, but it's been worth it! The chapter uses its funds for chapter operations and for worthy causes such as the BSP Breast Cancer Fund and the Heifer Project. Good luck finding a chapter. Erica |
What Erica said! OLK is a lot of fun

Online Chapters Are Wonderful!!
O/L KAPPA is the best! There are so many great gals out there that are Betas online. Cheers to Beta for encouraging us to band together online as well as in our land chapters!

Online Alpha Omega
I'm in the Online Alpha Omega chapter.
I love my online chapter except for the fact that I am the youngest member. I feel close to my OLAO sisters, I just wish that more of the younger people would join. We are a very informal group. There are no meetings, we do a gift exchange at Christmas and have our own membership pin. But otherwise we just chat. Some of the sisters made a quilt (each person interested made a few squares and sent them to the president or someone else and that person put them together to form a quilt). We do not have an executive board or any kind of structure the president just kind of runs things. There is a cap on membership into the chapter. I think its around 20-25 sisters. Leigh Ann |

so do/can people rush/pledge (not sure of BSP's preferred terminology) through the online chapters or are the online chapters for sisters who pledged through a traditional chapter and either move away from a traditional chapter or want the additional experience of the online chapters.

The online chapter in my case is the only way I am involved in BSP. I am not in a land chapter as of yet, but am looking to join one. I have been in BSP for about a year or so and the online chapters really appealed to me so I tried it out. While it has its perks, it also has its disadvantages. I have never been through a new member period or anything like that. Therefore I don't know much about the organization as whole. What I do know is that the land chapters function as any typical sorority would and I know what being a member at large is and what a frendly venture is there are different statuses. Other than that, I know nothing else of the history or the statuses or etc. so I would say that would be the disadvantage of online chapters, at least the on I'm in anyway. I do realize that more people that are in online chapters are also in or have been in land chapters and that I'm a rare case never being in one and not currently a member of one. But I am eager to learn everything and anything there is to know about BSP. I'm not sure if policies allow, but if I ever friendly venture an online chapter I will put on my application (if theres not a standard application that online chapters have to use) a question about how long the pnm has been in BSP and if she is a land chapter that way she can be sure that she is getting her moneys worth. Don't get me wrong I am very happy with my BSP experience so far, I just wish I knew more about the organization so that when I hear these terms I know what they mean and can use them myself in proper context. But usually people join an online chapter if they are unhappy with their land chapter and decide to change statuses to member at large and there are probably other reasons people decide to join online chapters that a BSP that has been in longer than I have can answer. Sorry about the long post. :) Hope I have helped you!
