Where do you get your news from?
Inspired by the discussion in my philosophy class. I am just wondering where people get their news from. I am just going to make some examples, and put my own. Obviously I can't cover everything so be as specific as you want. Maybe we'll find some new and exciting news sources.
1) Print - Newspapers, Magazines, Journals 2) Online - Listserves, sites like CNN 3) Television - Cnn, Fox, Local news 4) Radio - NPR, local stations 5) Other people - friends, family, coworkers Personally I listen to the radio when I can tune it in. Depending on where I am on the road, or how I adjust the antenna in my room, I can listen to NPR and other stations. I read the college newspaper every edition, and I read the regional paper as well as the larger paper from San Francisco. I bogart The Economist at work, and other magazines like "The week in review", "national geographic" and "newsweek". I don't own a TV, so I never watch any news. Sometimes I will check out CNN, and people I know send me articles all the time. |
Re: Where do you get your news from?
1) Print - Newspapers (Toronto Star, Globe & Mail, Campus papers), Magazines (Time, Economist), Journals (Janes)
2) Online - Yahoo news (UK, US and Canada) 3) Television - CNN, CBC, BBC, Local news 4) Radio - CBC, local stations 5) Other people - friends, family, coworkers |
NPR -- Morning Edition and All Things Considered daily. BBC World Service.
Newspapers -- New York Times online, Rocky Mountain News, Denver Post TV -- Three major US networks -- but prefer NBC. Cable networks on occassion. |
Radio--the local stations here that break in for 90 second news updates or special reports.
Online--CNN, FOX News, Netscape homepage, an occasional newspaper online. TV-- Fox News Channel (big fan of Bill O'Reilly, Neil Cavuto, and Shepard Smith), CNN Headline News in the mornings (mostly). |
CNN, online (such as msn.com, CNN.com, CharlotteObserver.com and sptimes.com), and usually the local news, if nothing else is on tv, or if I'm home at all.
|
1) Print - The Tennessean, US News and World Report
2) Online - Google News, msnbc.com 3) Television - Local News, MSNBC, Fox News, National news on ABC or NBC 4) Radio - None 5) Other people - Parents, friends |
Print - LA Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Local
Radio - Local Station (though I usually listen to CD's in the car) TV - Fox News Channel, CNN Online - A large list that includes Pravda, India Times, Washington Post, etc... |
1) Print - New York Times, The Economist
2) Online - AP, Reuters, NYT, BBC, NY1 3) Television - PBS (The News Hour, Charlie Rose), CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Fox, NY1 4) Radio - Howard Stern (seriously, for satirical analysis of pop culture, the man is a genius) |
I get my news online, mainly from the New York Times and a couple of local papers. From time to time I watch the BBC World News.
|
As for me:
Print: New York Times and Boston Globe TV: CNN, NBC Nightly News, local news stations Online: cnn.com, boston.com Radio: Any news breaks I get from local stations |
Most places except for Fox related sources.
|
1) Print - Local newspapers (Star, IOL, Mail and Guardian)
2) Online - BBC, AP, Reuters, and Google 3) Television - BBC, SABC Africa, SABC, and CNN 4) Radio - None 5) Other - My daily briefing papers and e-mail from Rome. |
Depends on what I'm trying to find out about. If it's world events I'll check CNN or Google News websites. For sports, I read the local paper, tons of websites, just whatever I can get my hands on. That just goes for about any subject I'm interested in. I try to find tons of sources. If any of them look thoughtful or well written I'll check them out.

I get my news from shows that have all sides arguing with one another. This way, you truly get the true reactions of all the sides involved with a situation.
