Recruitment question: Philanthropy Day craft for RMH

I was just wondering what the other chapters do for their philanthropy day 'craft' during Recruitment? This past year our chapter had baby t-shirts that we send RMH for their preemies (sp?). The shirts already have a design on them and basically the girls color & personalize them with paint pens.

I am considering running for Philanthropy Chair, so tons of ideas would be appreciated! :)

Feel free to post here or pm me! :)

texas*princess- I'm going to PM you when I get a minute....

Things my chapter has done:

-Have an alum association make teddy bears and we stuff them

-Make braclets to cover hospital braclets then add insperational quotes or messages to them (everyone's favorite was the one with the lion)

-have each pm make a page for a book...Make it insperational with quotes and things...then put it together for a table top book for RMDH

-Decorating quilt squares

-Making and decorating baskets of things that parents and what not need from donations (ie shampoo, razors, etc)...

Those are all of the ones I can think of off the top of my head right now...

The year I went through formal recruitment, each PNM did quilt squares that the delta members then sewed together to make a quilt for the RMH....I wonder if we ever got that completed and sent off to the RMH :D

Since then, during philanthropy night we make Badges of Courage for the patients and siblings of the patients. They look like lions and are made out of felt, and the best part is they're super simple so you can continue to carry on your conversation without really "paying attention" to completing the craft....the only downer is the sisters have to cut out all the pieces before FR begins (which at our university, wasn't too bad...we usually had less than 100 PNMs going through recruitment, and the sisters would just make their badges very slowly :) )

thank you so much for all the wonderful ideas! :)

This year we had the pms make lion masks. They loved making them, and the kids hopefully will love them just as much.

We make unique quilt squares that get sent to our alumni association and are quilted together for kids to have a blanket when they go to the RMH

we made checker boards out of pieces of paper and poster board, wrote an inspirational message/well wishing on the back, and then attached a baggy of erasers (playing pieces) to the board.

it was a pretty cute project, but those that got large boards had some confusion as to how to fill up the boards. we were trying to make them into tic-tac-toe boards but some of them looked weird, which was a good topic for conversation.

also, pretending to attempt to eat the paste is sometimes a good ice breaker if a pm isn't talking much ;)

these are all such wonderful ideas :)

random question about philanthropy day of recruitment: does your chapter only do one craft on philanthropy day? or do you have several? (for example, one table makes quilt squares, one makes boo boo buddies and the other table makes something else)

Alphie1851 12-01-2003 04:25 PM

we just did one craft.

we've also made blue and white bead bracelets and cards

I'm thinking that from a recruitment perspective, it would be better to do just one. Then when the PNMs are talking about the different chapters, they would have all done the same thing- some campuses have sooooo many houses that PNMs can mix them up easily. But that's just my initial thought about that- I may think of a good reason to do different projects later!

We had made wish bracelets for the longest time and then last year when we had a TCC she gave us some great ideas for better projects. The two that I remember are a) visiting local hotels/motels and asking for donations of toiletery items for the families of the kids since a lot of times they have to rush to the hospital and forget things like toileteries and b) getting the christmas ball decorations and decorating them with puffy paint, glitter, and stickers and send them to RMH for their christmas tree.

I LOVE the Christmas decoration idea!!!

we had the coolest craft this year for recruitment. we made hamburgers out of 2 sugar cookies (buns), chocolate icing (burger), red and yellow sprinkles (ketchup and mustard) and then we died coconut green to look like lettuce. mcdonalds donated all the wrappers and stickers and bags to put them in. they then went to the hospitalized children of the ronald mcdonald families. all the potential members said our craft was the best by far! and very tasty too!

texas*princess 12-02-2003 09:33 PM

that's a really cute idea SLUadpi :) I heard about something very similar to that from another sister and think it's adorable!

Thanks everyone to all the responses about the multi-crafting :) I was very curious how other chapters do this since this past year was my first experience with formal recruitment!

I hope this thread has helped out some of our other ADPi chapters with some new ideas as well :)
