Sister(Bro)friends, Another question for you....
Okay, I don't know what happened, but let me post again...
You can only choose ONE! What is more important to you...? 1. Is it more important to know only the history of your organization of choice..... 2. Is it more important to be an ACTIVE PARTICIPATOR/CONTRIBUTOR to your organization of choice.... 3. Is it more important to WEAR PARA, DO CALLS, CHANTS, STEP, ETC.? REMEMBER, you can only CHOOSE ONE,(1), UNO, UN....OKAY? OKAY! [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited February 06, 2001).] |
I believe that I would have to agree with statement #2.
Why? To me being an active member and participating in the sororities/fraternities activities would add to the positive out look of that org and strengthen the history of the org that you choose. In effect you will be making history as you go along. Stepping and wearing para is only secondary (And I'm sure a great fringe benefit to being in an org) but you will be representing when it really counts when you do positive things in the community. And can anyone really know the entire history of an organization? I'm just a sisterfriend but I think that it is a sure bet that there are some things that you just may not know about every org being that the oldest organization in the NPHC is 95 years old a whole generation removed. That's my opinion in the best way I can phrase it. searching |
I'd have to agree with searching. I think that the contribution you make after crossing carries far more weight than simply having a bank of information in your head. This is not to diminish the importance of knowing the org's history, just putting it into perspective.
I approached this question like I would a class. I find that memorizing textbooks are far less important than being able to fully understand and apply the concepts learned. |
Now I feel like you guys will think I'm jumping on the bandwagon here, but I believe selection 2.
This one really made me think. I've noticed that that as long as I've been interested I've been prompted by many to both know the history as well as contribute. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifBut...How can you know where you're going if you don't know where it all evolved from? Miss AKA2D,
Truly this is an interesting question...for it places one in an interesting position? Truly, you can't do the work without knowing why you do what you do? For instance, it's hard to contribute to an organization/business without understanding the vision or its strategic plan. It's the same here, you have to understand the history of an organization and its vision to effectively serve its purposes. You can be active in an organization, while not doing a great deal. Knowledge of the vision and history of the organization will give you the heart to go the extra mile. So, in essence, numbers 1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive. I would choose both (realizing that I have broken a big prerequisite of answering the question). But if you absolutely made me choose, I'd choose 1 because knowledge of the vision and history would naturally push me to work toward the goals of the organization. I would have to choose #1. In my opinion, if I knew the history of my organization of choice and completely understood its goals and principles then performing numbers 2&3 would come naturally.
|
I WOULD CHOOSE #1 BECAUSE I THINK KNOWING THE HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WILL MAKE YOU EVEN MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION, WHICH WILL LEAD YOU DO ALL THAT YOU CAN TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR ORGANIZATION.

#2, with #1 coming in a very very close second. I will shut up since everything that I was going to say, has already been said.
