Remmeber when MTV Unplugged was actually good?

Alice in Chain
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Nirvana
10,000 Maniacs
Eric Clapton
LL Cool J
Bob Dylan
Pearl Jam
Jayz w/ The Roots

I do, and wish it all could be back.

Who does unplugged nowadays?

moe.ron 11-18-2003 04:22 PM

Shakira

Yes, I remember. When did they stop doing unplugged?

I still have Pearl Jam's Unplugged on video (I taped it while it was on one day). AWESOME show.

The reason why they no longer do unplugged is because over half of the artists nowadays do not play their instruments nor do they actually sing the songs during concerts. They're so use to either lip-synching or having the back up of studio equipment to alter their voices that I'd guess they would never do an unplugged show.

Music today is pathetic.

I scoff at today's music.

Hello? Can we say LL COOL J's "Mama Said Knock You Out?"

The ones with Mary J. Blige, Kci & Jojo, and the "Uptown Family"... Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, and Jay-Z and the Roots...my favorites.

Remember when MTV was good? Like, 82-95? Now it's crap.

I've got the MTV Unplugged coffee table book. It's quite wonderful, as was the show. Regardless of whether I liked the artist or not, the show would always be worth watching.

Alrighty, don't hate on Shakira. She actually recorded her Unplugged performance in 1999, and at that time I am pretty sure most of you had no idea who she was, since she sang only in Spanish then. Now, that she has "crossed over" to the English market, MTV decided to release her Unplugged concert, although it's been four years.

I don't even think they have Unplugged concerts any more.

Yes, I am a huge Shakira fan, have been for a long time now. I HAD the Unplugged DVD, but it was stolen, so yeah.

Not really hating on Shakira, but her Spanish stuff is soooo much better than her crossover album. Could be the language thing, but it seemed like her body was marketed more than her actual talent.

*Sigh* Remember when MTV actually played MUSIC??? Not these silly shows. Cable at school only gets MTV, not MTV2 or any of that. Not that I don't like MTV shows, but I also like music videos!

Sadly MTV2 is moving away from music as well. Their shows are still about music, but they're showing a lot of TV shows these days instead of just videos. And remember when they played obscure videos? Everything MTV touches turns to crap.

I will admit that I enjoy her Spanish music way better than her English stuff, but I like it all. Although the lyrics in some of her English songs don't make sense, if you are familiar with Shakira's musical language, they actually do. I don't really know how to explain it, but the lyrics to her songs don't necessarily run smooth. They are messy, choppy, fun.

But they are fun!
