Phi Beta Psi (was Sororities for Adults)

The new Phi Beta Psi website is www.phibetapsi.org.
They were founded in 1904 as a high school sorority. Their philanthropy is "cancer research," apparently loosely defined so that local chapters can contribute to local efforts as well as the national funding of a grant.

They say they are one of the largest non-collegiate sororities. There's a directory on the website. I counted--86 chapters, 40 of which are in Indiana and 15 in Ohio. (P.E.O. has 2000+ chapters and I think Beta Sigma Phi is similar.)

The website must have been taken down

OrigamiTulip 11-17-2003 05:07 PM

The site is up, just remove the last . from the address above. :)

Well, I'm glad to see that they changed the site. ;)

What was wrong with the original site?

I must have missed something!

If I recall correctly, it looked almost exactly like Alpha Phi's national website. Ivy and all.

Not only did it look just like the A Phi site, it had pictures of A Phi's on it labeled as Phi Beta Psis. Very shady stuff....

sairose 11-17-2003 05:57 PM

weird...I've never heard of this sorority

sairose 11-17-2003 06:01 PM

I work in the library, and since I'm at work right now I just looked it up in Baird's. It has no mention of the sorority...then again it does not list Beta Sigma Phi either.

The full title of Baird's is, "Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities." Phi Beta Psi is not a collegiate fraternal organization, so it makes sense that they are not listed.

sairose, if your library has Gale's Encyclopedia of Associations (or Directory of Associations), you might want to check to see if that refernce work lists Phi Beta Psi ( and perhaps Beta Sigma Phi, P.E.O., etc.).

nevermind :)

OOPS! Thanks for that. I'm silly sometimes. :p

SigKapKatzue 11-17-2003 09:04 PM

so who is Pi beta psi's target audience?

And are there any members on this site?

how did it even come up?

I find the whole coping Alpha Phi thing absolutely horrible!!! I'm glad they changed it around.
