Dating younger guys
I'm 31 and have recently met a 23 y/o guy who I've been talking to lately. We have a lot in common and laugh all the time when we're together. He wants to go out, but I have just never dated anyone this much younger than me. People usually think I am about 27 y/o, but it is still obvious that he is much younger. I would love to hear your opinions about a women dating younger guys. Thanks!

I don't know if I can do it...Lord, I have enough trouble with the ones older than me!
Hmm...maybe that's the problem??? I say, if you're having fun, why not!!!:D |
Age is a number, and mine is unlisted. :D
If y'all are comfortable with it, then what's the problem? |
Ditto.
That was a clever way to put it honeychile. :) Quote:

I think the only time age should be a factor is if the guy is under 21 (or God forbid under 18 - which you shouldn't be messing with anyway ;)).
I've had this conversation with my Sis Mom several times ~ my husband's friend (who is pretty much his adoptive little brother) is SO very hot and my Sis Mom has had a crush on him ever since my husband and I's wedding when she was Maid of Honor and he was Best Man. Anyway, she won't even attempt to tell him she likes him because he won't be 21 until June 2004. I can understand why, but I want them to get together :D |

I think there are a lot of women on the site that don't think dating with disparate ages is a good idea though.
OR at least not where the man is the older party lol. There were a couple threads about this if I recall. |
I'm 6 1/2 years older than Mr. valkyrie, and I can tell you that the age difference has never been a problem at all -- people usually think I'm younger than I am too. Go for it!

I clearly have no experienced opinion on this, seeing as how I'm 21, but I guess I always thought that age was more of an issue when you're in school. Once you're out of college I think anything within 7 or 8 years is fair game...you're living in the same real world, and though the chances are higher that you're in different parts of your life, couldn't you both be looking for the same thing??
And let's just say he's not husband material, does that matter? I have no idea what you're looking for but I say if you guys get along well, just have fun with it. Going on a date is not a contract binding you to marriage. |
There is a HUGE difference if the guy you like, the 23 y/o either acts like 23 or acts more your age.
There is nothing wrong with the fact that he is much younger than youself but if you see he is more immature than youself then problems could occur. I think its more the fact that he is still in his "twenties" and your not..im sure if he was 30 and you were 37/38 it wouldnt matter so much. Just go for it..it wont hurt to find out! *edited for age mistake.* |

I'm thinking of a couple of things. If you're having sex with this guy its gonna be one hell of a passionate relationship. It'll be steamy in the begining. I'm all for people dating someone much older than them at least once, the guy will learn so much from you. You'll probably be wearing the pants in the relationship to some degree. What I'm about to say is an honest opinion and is based on my experience and that of my peers. All guys need to date a chick older than them at least once. It gives us a heads up on women. When I was 20 I dated a 30 yr old professor from USF in Tampa, FL. The sex was incredible, she turned me into what I am present day in the bed...lol. I liked her and she was in love with me. But, the age thing kept lingering back in my mind. I went to Tampa every weekend to go see her. Then one day I was sitting in my apartment and thinking about her later on down the road. I decided it would be better for me to leave her now than years from then. The reason being because she was so much older than me. I didn't want to end up being 30 and she'd be 40, I'd be looking for younger girls when we hit that age. I thought she deserved more than that and didn't have enough time to play around like I did. As much as I liked her I didnt want to waste her time. In october my friend Chris broke up with his Fiance (she's 31) because of the age factor. He started thinking about later on down the road and her being so much older now....what would it be like then? It sucked. I would say the relationship itself would be fun for you two. It'll make you feel younger and him feel like he's getting the royal treament while learning so much about chicks. In the end, though, I don't think its gonna work if you want something long term. If you're looking for a person to just casually date, I say go for it. Its so much fun. But if you're wanting to settle down and have someone serious....I wouldn't advise it. |
I say go for it... you lose more by holding back. Age is just a number, unless you make it an issue. I can't say I've ever dated anyone younger than me though... at school I met this hot Abercrombie model who was 19, I was 21... I didn't care, he was hot! (That's my only age difference experience.)

why not?
Age is really a state of mind. I prefer older men actually. They tend to be more stable and grounded, just my opinion. I actually prefer dating someone who is at least 5 or 6 years older. This may sound a little old fashioned, but I have committed myself to abstinence until marriage and older guys seem to respect this more. Guys my age seem to not want to wait and hey-can't really blame them I guess. To each their own. As long as the two people are happy, who cares!:)

That sucks. |
when i was 19, i dated a younger guy for about 3 weeks. he was just 16 years old. i was so embarrassed but he was a really nice guy. the only reason i went out with him was to make my current boyfriend jealous. i know that is bad but hey it worked. he may have been only three years younger than me but i was dating a child. i am all about the older guys now:p
