Alums Wearing Letters

I was just wondering how many of you that are alumnae still wear their letters?

I will still wear my letters after I graduate in December. I dont think that just because I'm alumnae means I'm "too old" to wear my letters or what not.

At my Senior banquet, we have at the end what's called Senior Giveaways where seniors will give away a lot of their theta stuff and shirts. I can understand giving away " Rush (enter favorite fraternity name here)" shirts, but why give up your letter stuff? Needless to say I didnt give away anything at my senior banquet, it's all special to me :) Does anyone else feel this way?

I think it makes a lot more of a difference to you because you are still an active. I remember wearing my favorite Theta shirts for a couple of years after I graduated in 1983. You certainly have EVERY right to wear those letters proudly.

I admit that I don't think I have any shirts with our letters on it now. Now I am more likely to wear a shirt about animal rescue or spay & neuter!

Don't give away anything that has a lot of sentimental value to you... you never know when you will have a little legacy in the family to pass them down to!

I've been out of school for (gasp) 12 years now and still wear the letters on a favorite sweatshirt.

I only have 2 sets of letters, neither of which fits particularly well since I've lost weight since college. However, I went on a service project with my little sister's girl scout troop recently and wore my sweatshirt... it just seemed appropriate somehow.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I've only been an alum for about six months now, but I still wear letters once in a while.

I graduated in December from Kansas State University and will still wear mt letters proudly. However, I am taking a lot of Theta and K-State t-shirts cutting them apart and making a keepsake quilt for my bed so I'll always have them.

I want to make a quilt too! Are you doing it yourself, or having it made? I would like to make mine myself, because I think it would have more meaning that way, but I'm scared I'll screw it up!

Has anyone else made one? And if so, did you buy a pattern, or just throw it together?

A sister from my chapter who was the VPD when I went alum here officially in December :) was good at sewing and even had her sewing machine with her in her room on the Theta floor. She made a Theta quilt and did an excellent job.

I would like to have one myself but will probably have one made by my gramma. I love my letter shirts I have now and cant part with them, but I'm thinking that maybe i could get some scrap fabric from wal-mart or jo-ann fabric and kinda tracing the letters on to that material from my letter bag. and then cut them out or taking fabric to a place that makes the shirts and the bags etc and see if they will cut the letters for me for a cheap price and get them that way. I think the idea of putting school stuff on there too is a great idea in addition to the chapter name letters. :)

I'll probably attempt to make it myself or at least plan it all out and just have my mom sew it together since she is more crafty then I am.

That is a really great idea- a Theta quilt. I have kept many shirts I had from high school and before- shirts representing musicals and such that I was in. I have always thought it would be neat to make a quilt from those. I myself and a sewer, somewhat, and enjoy doing crafty things. I have tended to play a big part when it comes time to make kite pillows for initiation each semester...
Just my thoughts on the whole idea...:)
