spech help!
so, i am running for president this sunday. quite frankly, i am the underdog. plus, i wasn't slated this past sunday.
i need a speech for this sunday. badly. more importantly, i need a brief but powerful introduction and a conclusion! if anyone can help, i would appreciate it. OR if you want to improve on what i have so far, go ahead! i want to say something like: "any organization is only as strong as it's members. it's members are only as strong as it's leadership. we are known on campus for being smart, active, fun, but above all strong. we are a force to be rekoned with . . . " and then i really want to say something along the lines of "and so am i!" but saying it that bluntly that doesn't seem right. my "campaign" is that i am a strong person who is 110% alpha phi (that BLEEDS silver and bordeaux) and that those two things, coupled with all that i am planning on doing for the sorority, will make me a good leader. i believe i am strong because my blood little sister wasn't invited to pref night and i wasn't any less of a member for it, plus i had to deal with a psycho lil sis that tried to get me kicked out of school (LONG story--we will just leave it at that). i want to say something about those two things because i was a really brave and level-headed person through it all. i also want to say that i did all my jobs this year while maintaining an honor's level GPA (and even raising it), taking 18 and 20 credit hours respectively, working a difficult part-time job, and still being the most active in a-phi that i have ever been. also i want to say something about the improvements i want to make. so far i really want exec. board to be more functional (meaning VP's actually MEET with the people they are under as often as possible--communication needs to be improved), i want to try and improve sisterhood (there is a "gap" that exists--i want to close it if i can), i want to try a "point system" to improve attendance to events and sisterhood, and finally i really want the sorority to be more democratic--give sisters more of a say in what exec. board decides about them! also, i have been around 3.5 years and i want to say something about how i have done it all at least three, sometimes 4, times. unless you all think that sounds crappy and concieted, in which case i won't say it. :) and basically i want to say a LOT more, but i am not sure i can fit it all into 1-2 minutes! so i am stressing. anyone that can help me would be literally my life saver . . . to be honest, i really i don't think i will get this position, but i am sure as heck not giving up! ~Leah bee |
Hey Leah! I hope your speech went well last night. Good luck. Yeah, your lil sis has put a lot of people through hell!

JOHN!!!!!!
oh my GOD hi!!!! :) that is so cool that you post on here. :)
and thanks for the support! my speech went very well and it was very good--i was very proud of it and many girls told me it was the best one of them all (wihich, of course, i agree with!) unfortuantely it wasn't enough and carly beat me out by a couple of votes for president. :( boo to that. i didn't run for anymore offices because i was kind of bummed, but i don't regret it. i really am looking forward to getting old and enjoying no responsibility with emily, julie, tiffany, and the like. :) i will need to concentrate on student teaching this fall anyway too, so i decided a while ago that if i didn't get president that i probably shouldn't run for anything else. and i refuse to say anything bitter about last night, though i may feel just slightly that way. ;) i don't know how anyone else feels about elections, but i just hate how they are dealt with and the mental anguish they put girls through. and i hope my "lil sis" didn't make you life too hellish! hey if you see her sometime, can you get all the stuff i gave her back for me?? :p lol . . . i'm only half kidding!! she was truly quite difficult to deal with, and i am disappointed that things turned out the way they did. but THANK YOU for all your efforts with her!! i KNOW from experience that could not have been easy. definite KUDOS to you for that!! :) see ya! good hearing from you! ~Leah  |
What's up with giving your own speeches? Doesn't someone speak for you on elections night? I've never heard of this...

we used to have someone speak for us, but we decided to speak for ourselves this year. it works out better in my opinion.

In Alpha Phi the Nominations Chair speaks for approximately one minute on behalf of each nominated candidate. The person who nominated the candidate and the person who seconded the nomination are each given one minute to speak on behalf
of their nominee. Speeches must be positive and highlight the reasons why the candidate is uniquely qualified for the office. Candidates are not supposed to give speeches at all. |
