Men With Braids
Is it me or does it seem like every man out there has corn rows? I hope it's just me.
I was in church yesterday and I noticed that a lot of the men (young and old) were wearing braids. Ladies, do you find this attractive? |
Hello laides,
Hope you don't mind if I put my little 2 cents worth in. For me I am not feeling the braids on any man, be he young or old. I guess I'm just from the old school. But to each his own. ------------------ Peace KL |
Being from the south, it's kinda the norm these days and yes on some men I find it quite attractive. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
Now, if it's coupled with sagging pants, the aroma of weed, and 30 gold teeth, then nothing could turn me off more! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Now I think braids on a Black man (and yes I have seen them on white men http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif in a word, scary...just my opinion) are the sexiest thing since locks (I guess I should add, that I LOVE well cared for locks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif). I should clarify and say cornrows or twists...cuz as natural as I wanna be, I can't bear to see a bruh w/ individual box braids...it hurts http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif... |
I don't like them. Never have and probably never will.

ICK!!
Make it stop, please!! (I guess I'm from the old school too) Sorry for the drama, but I can't STAND the nonsense.... |

I just hate to think about a brother sporting the braids and a tux...OH MY GOSH! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif...that one is for DO NOT.COM http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif HA! HA! |
Pardon me for butting in... Personally, I am not drawn to braids. Twists and locks look better. If one is going to have dreads, twists, braids, etc. KEEP IT NEAT (and properly oiled)! Fuzzy braids, twists 2 months over due, and uncomed/unbrushed hair for that matter is not cute.

Locs: Yes Dreads: Eh Clean Cut: Ok... Braids: No No No!!!! |
No, I can't say I find it attractive, either.
I like the clean cut look. |
This is an interesting topic. Many of my younger frat brothers are sporting this look or are considering this twist thing. I can let the young brothers slide but to see a 35 year old man with corn rolls is crazy. I don't think the look is professional -- well, unless he is in the rap business (lol).
One more thing - Alpha men by most standards are VERY distinguished and maybe conservative some would say. In this regard, those seeking membership to the frat with contemporary hair styles often give me the impression that they don't fit the mold. ------------------ "The World Belongs to Those Who Care Deeply, Who Dream Broadly, and Who Work Steadfastly." |
Braids are an absolute no no. Why would I want to date a guy with hair longer than mine. We can go to the salon together and talk about hair care. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
|
I really doesn't matter as long as he looks good and they fit that guy. Some guys can get away with it and others can't.
Oh yeah, I found it funny how some women said that they don't find it attractive (braid/cornrows/etc.) on men, but when some of the males in the other topic stated they don't find women with short/natural/whatever type of hairstyle attractive some women questioned their preferences. Could this be a double standard? |

Maybe. In my opinion the whole "long, pretty hair" thing is very deep rooted in our culture. You can't deny that folks have been talking about nappy vs. straight and happy for a LONG time now. The braids on men issue is fairly new and not a heated. It's not as "historical" as natural/short hair on women debate. Also, it's hard to put the two side by side because braids only alter the STYLE of the hair, not the TEXTURE. Much of that last thread where we talked about hair was directed towards the texture of it. Braids are Braids. However, not all natural hair looks one way so how can you say you don't like ANY natural styles? That's what I love about it. There are all kinds of gradients/textures. With braids and perms it's either flat/curled in some way or BRAIDED. Hell, I don't like cornrows period. I never did my little sister's hair that way when I was living at home, and I never wear them unless I'm going to bed. [This message has been edited by Poplife (edited January 23, 2001).] |
