Since I've been singing Kappa songs all evening...
What Kappa songs does your chapter sing a lot?
What is your favorite Kappa song? My chapter is all about "Dream a While," although we haven't sang it that much recently. I think we're burnt out on it a bit. We also always seem to be singing "On The Heart Of Each Sister" and recently "Today and Tomorrow." I personally love "Today and Tomorrow." |
What is Today and Tomorrow and how does it go? I've never heard of that one! Can you put the words on the board?
Thanks! Loyally, Martha |
For candlepassings we would sing Dream Awhile and Our Best to You. For fun songs it was Pat or Legs.
In the past two years I've really gotten involved with the Alum group in the city I live and one of my favorite things is on Founder's Day when all the older members sing the old songs they learned. I made a little songbook this year that they all really enjoyed. |
My favorites are "Lovely Girl/Dream A While," "Today/You'll Find as a Kappa," and "On The Heart of Each Sister."
And of course, "Oh Pat," and I am also partial to "Rah! Rah! For Kappa Kappa Gamma." Now I'm going to have Kappa songs in my head all night! |
oooh!!!
What are the words to the song that goes to the tune of "Today"??? That was one of my favorite songs growing up (my mom sang it to me all the time!), but I don't think I've ever heard the Kappa version. Thanks!

Here are the words to "Today/You'll Find as a Kappa":
You'll Find As a Kappa You'll find as a Kappa you'll always recall The laughter, the friendship, the mem'ries and all The blues that we cherish, the owl so wise; These are the symbols that we will hold dear all our lives. I'll be your true friend and I'll be your comrade You'll know who I am by the key that I wear. I'll strive to be loyal, I'll try to be worthy Of all that we honor and share. (repeat first verse) Today Today and tomorrow, our love's golden key The caring and sharing bonding all KKGs Friendship and unity, truth and fraternity For us right now the blue fleur-de-lis. KKG. Ours is a sisterhood open and challenging Ours is a house from which laughter shall ring. We share a heritage, tradition, and loyalty, Of dear Kappa Gamma we sing. They are both to the same tune, which is called "Today," by Randy Sparks. |
So many good Kappa songs I don't know/haven't ever heard of! I think HQ needs to make an update of their song notebook...

The days of our Kappa years may fly away, die away, The days of true friendship may be memory, We have loved, we have learned, let us teach now in turn For the flame that is kindled forever shall burn. KKG. I wish I could give you some idea of how haunting and beautiful it is with the harmony part. What are Legs and Our Best to You? I've never heard of them. I'm also a big fan of Rah-Rah, if you haven't guess based on my signature. |
Legs is a song we sang after Bid Day, after initiation, during serenades, at weddings and other fun times:
(to be sung in a circle, arms around each other, doing kicks) Legs like Eva Gardner, a figure like Bardot And when it comes to lovin' she will never let go 'Cause she's a Kappa! (chi chi boom, chi chi boom, chi chi boom) 'Cause she's a Kappa! (chi chi boom, chi chi boom, chi chi boom) 'Cause she's a Kappa Kappa Gamma, until the day she dies And when she came to college, she caused quite a stir The other girls wer jealous, they were jealous of her 'Cause she's a Kappa! (chi chi boom, chi chi boom, chi chi boom) 'Cause she's a Kappa! (chi chi boom, chi chi boom, chi chi boom) 'Cause she's a Kappa Kappa Gamma, until the day she dies Bah dah dah dah DUMMMMMM (leaning over sideways with jazz hands) Our Best to you (not quite sure of the tune) Our best to you, may your dreams come true May old father time, never be unkind And through the years, save your smiles and tears They are souveniers, they'll bring music to your heart Remember this, each new day's a kiss Sent from up above, with a Kappa's love Our best to you, may your dreams come true Kappa's love's best, that's our best to you. SherbertLemons You're from UCF, right? The CC that helped get the chapter started there was from my chapter, I'm surprised she didn't teach any of those to you! But then again, not everyone was as Kappa crazy at my chapter as I was. :) |
Ok - I'm jealous now. I love Kappa songs. I wish you had a music file to go along with these so I could learn new ones!!!

She never really did teach us any songs. Most of the advisors that taught us Kappa songs were from Epsilon Phi. (University of Florida.) And I agree with PTKKG's wish fo sound files to learn the songs. Especially Legs. It sounds so cute! |
Yep! That's Kylee. :) My husband and I had lunch with her on our honeymoon (we went to Seattle/Portland). She's doing pretty well, still the same Kylee! I know she really enjoyed helping start your chapter, what an experience! We both went on the TC interviews, but she got chosen, which was probably for the best (or I might not be married now!)
Here's some pictures of all us Kappas doing Legs at my wedding (the one with the baby is my sister--we got my niece started early with the Kappa stuff! ;) : http://kdotp.tripod.com/legs1.jpg http://kdotp.tripod.com/legs2.jpg It's just such a fun song!! |
I'm glad to hear Kylee's doing well. :) I think a couple of members/ alumnae of my chapter are still in touch with her.
THAT IS SO CUTE! :) Omg! So your sister's also a Kappa? Is she from your chapter? One of our advisors from Epsilon Phi was telling us about their wedding tradition. They circle the groom and sing Sweetheart of KKG. In case you don't know it, it goes like this: Sweetheart Sweetheart of mine Sweetheart of KKG Sweetheart say you'll be mine Mine for all time to be Say that you'll love me when we're grey and old Say that you'll cherish this dear key of gold Sweetheart Sweetheart of mine Sweetheart of KKG Just out of curiosity, how big was your chapter when you were there? Your wedding dress is really pretty, btw. :) |
Thanks! :)
Yep, my older sister (4 years older) was a Kappa at Iowa State, too. I would visit her at the house when I was in high school, and fell in love with it! I've heard Sweetheart of KKG, but it's not one we sing. It's such a pretty song! Total at Iowa State was 92 and we were consistently between 82-92. There was maybe one semester we were lower than 80, it was just one of those years, you know?? Our chapter house can hold up to 65 girls and we usually kept 2-3 spots open in the fall so if new members wanted to move in right away, they could. |
Ok, I'm confused.
Does Pat go something like : "Oh Pat", says she, "What?" says he, "Tell me the truth," says she, "What do you think is the best fraternity?" "Oh," says he, "That's easy! Easy to see" say he, "Nobody's betterrrrrrrr, than KKG!" ???? At AZ State, we do it a bit differently. Our song is called "Rowdy-Doo". We start off chanting & clapping (this part goes pretty quickly) "Rowdy Doo, rowdy-doo, rowdy-doo da, Whoo! Rowdy doo, rodwy-doo, rowdy-doo! Kappa Kappa Gamma, that's what I am-a Said Kappa Kappa Kappa Kappa Gammaaaaaaa! Ohhhhhhh, "Pat" says she"...etc etc. After the "Nobody's betterrrrrrr, than KKG!" part, we yell "Ohhhhhh, Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma, I'm so happy that I am-a Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma, Nobody Knoooooooows!!! How happy I am!" During the "Ohhhhhh" part, we fall on our knees and proceed to bow up and down hitting the floor during the the "Kappas". I don't know if that makes any sense, but feel free to email me at beth1010@aol.com and I'll try to explain it a little better. It is our serenading song that we do during recruitment and before each formal/date party. Other GLO's hate it when we do this during recruitment because we are so loud with our cheering and hitting of the floor...but we love it! Also, if we are doing the basket passing ceremony singing "Sweetheart of Mine", this song promptly follows...causing much fun embarrassment to the happy couple now being serenaded in the center of the circle (trust me!) Happy Holidays! Beth |
