Fraternity Alumni Chapters

Are fraternity alumni chapters as active as sorority alumnae chapters?

I ask because I know that depending on the area sorority alumnae can play a big part in recruitment (South mainly) but from what I have been able to understand fraternity alumni don't play as big a role most of the time.

Also there are Alumnae Panhellenic but I've never heard of an Alumni IFC. And why aren't there any Alumni Greek Councils where the Alumni and Alumnae can meet?

I don't know too much about IFC Alumni Chapters in DC, but I do know that I have seen websites for a handful of them.

DC is definitely an NPHC city, hands down. :-D

I'm an officer of our alum chapter. Our officer group meets fairly regularly and actually helps the active chapter officer that directly corresponds to us.

We're still in the formative stages of our chapter (I should get our charter in the mail sometime this week) but we do plan to have a social aspect to our group. Hey, if we pay dues, we want to see chapter programming (ie. golf tournements, etc).

We also publish a newsletter each semester.

So it sounds like your advisory board and alum exec board are one in the same. Is that standard??? We have a seperate AB and a seperate alumnae exec board, though there's often cross over between the two. I hold positions on both for example, but I don't advise the collegiate office that corresponds to my alum office.

In my opinion men's fraternity alumni chapters are much less active than the womens groups, I don't know why, maybe its the same reason the forums for womens groups are more active on greek-chat than the mens groups forums.

hmm.

could it also be that men in general are more active as alumni with their former chapters? I dont know if thats how it is in general, but at my school, the alumni ALWAYS come back to their fraternities, but the women rarely invite the alumnae back.... so we make our own alumnae chapters without the undergrads.

it seems like guys respect the older guys more. Currently, I hang out at fraternity houses at my school more than I go to my own chapter, since I'm with my guy friends.... and the brothers treat their alum like gold, while we're ignored (and I know half of the sisters too! I only graduated last year!).

We have a very small alumni base right now. We only received our charter in '02:D

As a former president of our Alumni Club/Corp. I think the biggest difference between NIC/NPC alum groups is that NPC tends to go for regionally based clubs for women to affiliate where they live. For the men's groups, some have this, but chapter-based alumni clubs are much more the norm. Our alumni club was pretty active and holds social events (usually at a brother's home) 3-4 times a year. We also tend to have a lot more of our alumni come back for homecoming than the sororities do. Next year, since several of our brothers married Alpha Sigma Alphas, we are co-hosting a reunion for them at our house! (the chapter was closed in the mid 90s).
