Jewel Degree

Any of you alums have any (not too revealing) thoughts about Jewel degree? I LOVED IT!!

Jewel Degree is my absolute favorite of all our rituals!! Most especially, when there are enough alumnae to do it properly!

Second Comment: When/where is Jewel Degree done in your area?

At the end of the school year?
At an alumnae association meeting?
In the chapter house/suite/chapter room?
At an alumna's house?
More than once a year?

We haven't had an active alumnae association in a while, so there seems to be just about 4 of us who do this every year. I'd like to hear the wheres & whens of other chapters.

Well I will be going through mine at the end of this semester...Yippy...There will be 4 of us going through, and we generally have done it in the chapter room (NAU has one all greek dorm and the sororities and some of the fraternities each have their own chapter rooms)...In the past we have had some local alumnae help out...and people come up from Phoenix...since we don't have an alumnae association in Flagstaff....

My chapter only holds Jewel Degree once a year...at the end of the school year. Our chapter's founding was at the end of the school year, so we normally hold our Jewel Degree after our Founder's Day celebration. The alumnae members set everything up, and then the graduating seniors go through together in our chapter room. I can't wait to be a part of the ceremony as an alumna...someday! :)

When I went through it, Jewel Degree was a special Alumnae Association meeting to which all the graduating seniors were invited. It was understood that being part of the Alumnae Association was the natural progression of being an ADPi.

Lately, we've been doing it at the suite (this is Alpha Iota; at Pitt, most of the sororities have a floor in an all-sorority dorm), but we don't get as many alumnae interested as before. We've also had some miscommunication about dates or time (since the chapter does the invitations, not the alumnae) and that's caused some hard feelings in the past. That was why I'd love to hear about how other chapters hold Jewel Degree.

Since we hold our Jewel Degree the same time as Founder's Day, we usually have a good turnout of alumnae show up that are able to assist with Jewel Degree. Our corresponding secretary usually sends out the invites for Founder's Day celebration, and then she includes an extra card about anyone wishing to participate in Jewel Degree as well as assist with Jewel Degree. From what I could tell, we had a great amount of turnout for both Founder's Day and Jewel Degree!

We hold Jewel Degree twice a year. Once in December, at the alumnae Christmas party for the December graduates and one in April, at founders day for the May graduates. Last December I recieved my Jewel Degree and I loved it and in April I actually got to participate in Jewel Degree for about fifteen seniors. It was an amazing experience.

nauadpi, congratulations on Jewel Degree. I am hoping to participate in Gamma Rho's Jewel Degree on Wednesday night (just depends if they have all the alumna help they need).

Also, congratulations on your impending graduation.
