Christmas

I can hear the groans acrossed the miles. . . but since Department stores have had Christmas decorations out for the past two months (and we had snow the other day - that stayed on the ground even!) I felt safe in broaching the subject.

I was wondering what some of your favorite Christmas decorations are, which you can't wait to unpack and put out. Mine are my Department 56 village pieces - though actually they don't count because they are kept out all year! Other than those, I love the wreath my mom made for me years ago with a stuffed snowman on it. I'm also planning on putting some lights outside and getting myself an advent wreath - in addition to my normal decorating!

p.s. what brought this on was my making a Christmas list for my mom, the fact we are going shopping on Saturday for Christmas presents and ornaments, and I'm rearranging my house and put out more of my Dept56 pieces! ;)

Dept 56

Sarah,
Which Village do you collect? I collect Original Snow Village. Our florist had a 50% off sale two weeks ago on retired pieces. Needless to say, I have found that more retired pieces came home with me than I originally thought to buy!

I have a few of the "village" type houses, couldn't tell you what kind other than the Old World Village tealight houses from PartyLite :) I love them so much I left them out this year instead of packing them away. DH and boys thought I was looney, but they're my houses and I can do what I want with them, right? :D
I put them on top of my laundry cabinets! That way when I'm doing the never ending piles of laundry, I can look up and have a smile.

I also have a treasured Muffy Vanderbear angel. She is displayed in her stand in the living room during the year, but moves over and tops the tree for the holidays!

Roses,
C

I have the Alpine Village and I want to get started on Christmas in the City. My mom usually is the one to get me pieces (then she knows something fun to get me for Christmas) but I did purchase a few myself. . . The vonTrapp Family Villa and Sound of Music Wedding Church. I have found out that ALL the pieces I currently have are retired. . .but that's okay :) Overall it is difficult to find places that carry my village. My mom has Dickens and New England so between the two of us we do rather well with the number of pieces we have! LOL I can imagine how it was easy to justify purchasing more pieces than expect - "But honey, they were half off so I get to buy twice as many!" ;)

Retirement day is tomorrow! :) Department 56

Roses!

Is Muffy a Boyd's? The reason I ask is that the name is something that Boyd's would have. :)

No, she's a North American Bear Co. bear.

http://www.muffy.com/wishlist.htm (she's a boxed limited edition from Fall 1989! I've still got the box, although she is displayed.)

I also have the entire Vanderbear family in the "High Tea" outfits. I love these bears!
