LSU Chapter update....
Posted also on Risk Management Forum, but here is the story linked from that thread...
Has anyone heard if LXA nationals is going to do anything above and beyond what LSU has done to this chapter? LSU fraternity sanctioned for hazing By BRETT TROXLER btroxler@wbrz.com 2theadvocate.com staff From a report by WBRZ's Katherine Mosely The LSU chapter of the Lambda Chi fraternity was sanctioned this week for a number of hazing incidents earlier this fall, which will extend the fraternity's probation from May of 2004 to the fall of 2005. The LSU Greek Affairs announcement comes on the heels of Lambda Chi receiving a gold level assessment - the University's highest assessment level - last spring. Lambda Chi was the only LSU fraternity or sorority to receive such a high level of praise for everything from campus involvement to academics to operations. Shortly after receiving the award, the fraternity was put on probation for members fighting. Following these recent sanctions, LSU Greek Affairs Director Victor Felts said the university's zero tolerance policy for hazing, fighting and alcohol is now in full swing. "It's unfortunate that incidents can occur in what was believed to be our top notch on campus," said Felts, referring to the Lambda Chi organization. "That lets us know things aren't always as good as they appear." Felts said Lambda Chi hazed its new members this fall by blindfolding them and subjecting them to verbal abuse, making them do pushups in trash, forcing them to chug syrup and do members' homework. Lambda Chi is not alone among LSU fraternities on probation. Out of the campus's 20 fraternities, nine are on probation for things such as hazing, alcohol, assault, fighting and vandalism. Delta Sigma Theta, a sorority, is also on probation for assault. Felts said the current numbers are the highest he can remember, but it's not because the violations are happening more often. "For a period of time there were no professional staff members in the Greek Affairs," Felts said. For the first time in at least five years Greek Affairs has a full staff to investigate complaints, and if future complaints are valid, LSU will continue to enforce its zero tolerance policy, Felts said. As reported Nov. 4 on WBRZ's 5 p.m. telecast. If you have information or comments related to this story, email news@wbrz.com. |
DeltaAlum called me at the shop today and asked if I had seen this!
Damn, what a stupid idiotic thing to be doing in the wake of all that has been going on at the LSU Campus. :( I am sure justamom is sorely dissapointed in this as She was nudging Her son towards LXA, and then this happens.:o   I am sure Risk Management will be hot on this.:( |
Sad Times...
To be honest, if the allegations are true, I will be sick with grief! I can't believe that we still have chapters out there that are willing to revert back to the days of hazing...it's wrong, it's stupid and the entire chapter should be dealt with as harshly as possible.
Man o man...now is not the time for these things to be happening. Lambda Chi has so many great things going for it right now - and thanks to those who've decided to not live the ritual in their daily lives, we are now going to be forced to take reactive steps to secure our prominence in the fraternal world. We should be out there praising our chapters for things like the NAFD, brotherhood and fraternal development... Living in Iowa (Simpson Grad), I know the pain and angst of trying to get through a public mess. To this day, I still get questions of my continued involvement with a fraternity that allows its members to drink to the point of death. And that was over 5 years ago! I, and I hope others believe this, have no time or patience for chapters that haze. That is NOT what we are about...never has been and never will be. |

I am sorry you feel this way. I had the pleasure of meeting several chapter members a few weeks ago. My son is proud to be associated with this fraternity and looks forward to the day he will be initiated. My son has changed. I am so very proud of him. The changes I see in him are not merely a reflection of college and the independence it offers, I know the changes are due to his involvement with LXA. I hope the sanctions the university has implemented are acceptable to LX's National HQ. It would be a great loss to my son and many other young men if they were "dealt with as harshly as possible." I do think that ALL the GLOs need a "risk management" education, and I'm not talking about some "fluff" job. I HONESTLY do not believe they understand the full ramifications of their actions-though this is NO EXCUSE. My heart says they have too much potential, as they have repeatedly proved, to be judged too harshly. These ARE the campus leaders, the young men with agile minds. They deserve their probation. They also deserve closer guidance and the chance to be totally cognizant of the potential consequences of their actions. I don't believe, in an atmosphere where extreme examples of hazing exist, they considered this. |

I am glad you are being open minded about this, especially as a parent. Dont worry JAM, LSU is an awesome chapter with a long history. 8741 Founders Road (HQ) is very proud of that chapter and since thsi is the first trouble that has been raised, I am sure they wil weather this storm, most liekly with a probation status from HQ. Thanks for the support JAM. Again, as always, you good people. So proud to have you now in the Lambda Chi family. Once your son get initated, I can say you're my brothers mom! yay! |
Life, since we are two of her idols, (:) ) I to applaud her for what she has posted!
I recieved a PM from JM who is a firm beleiver in LXA and what her son feels!:) I felt a lot taller in the saddle about the situation than what I first felt. I have been working to discover the true situation along with some others that i have been in Contact with and it sounds like a lot more was put into it than really was. But the point being, that some of the Boys will be Boys, fun at the moment can always turn into something frightening!:( |
i hope nationals doesnt deal with them too harshly. theyre not a troublesome chapter and we all make mistakes, and we all learn from them. i think they'll apply what theyll learn from this and move even further in the right direction and keep on dominating!

Guess what! I am a PROUD member of "The Ladies of Lambda Chi "!!! This group is made up of all the interested mothers who want to support the chapter and their sons with FOOD, decorations, events or fill in when an extra hand is needed. Had a really nice meeting with them. What an amazing group of women. |
JWOW, that is what Moms are for!:)
Wish we had something like that, will bring it up in the future and see if it flys! I am sure steady hands of the Moms help keep a little straightness in them as dont want to look like a Jerk in front of MOM!:D My very best to one of the best!:) |
