For all non-NPC or IFC sororities/fraternities
I'm aiming it at us since our Rush goes completely different. :D
Is there anything greater than talking to girls (or guys if that's the case) that really want to join your sorority and are so excited about pledging? I say this because right know our tiny chapter of 7 is about to grow big time. We have at LEAST 20 girls that are going to pledge in the spring!!! :D And the girls are so excited about it, and it's just so cute to hear them say, "oh, I love SAI! I can't wait to pledge! It's going to be so much fun!" :D |
Congrats on quadrupling the size of your chapter! :)
We got a little bit of what I think you're talking about when we held informal recruitment. The people who come out for IR really want to be there with your GLO - whether they come out with their minds made up that they want to join, or just to find out more about what your org is about. This is unlike NPC's formal recruitment, where sometimes you can just tell that someone is only there because she has to visit all her options and she can't wait to leave. I'm a little curious - you say you're getting these 20 women but they haven't pledged yet? Do you do your membership selection in the fall but not actually start the pledge program until spring semester? I'm wondering because when we get new members, we can't wait to slap a ribbon on them - even if, for some reason, we hold off on starting their actual new member education. |
Well, we only Rush in the spring, but since we are a music sorority, we already know all the girls in the music department. By the time Rush comes around, we've already got a pretty good idea of who we are giving bids to. So in a sense we're rushing girls all fall semester so when spring comes around, it's less stressful because we know who wants to join.

I understand the tripling of your chapter- that's awesome! My sorority only has five sisters in it and we want to take no more than 8 because none of us can afford to have more than 2 Littles. My question to you is: don't you think taking on such a big pledge class may not give the chapter as much control over them/ take a toll on sisters financially? Those are 2 of our biggest concerms when taking on a pledge class. I hate to seem pessimistic, I just want you to see a more real perspective.

Not really...see, we've already discussed it and we can all afford 3 littles if need be. Usually it's just the VP Membership(me) that leads the Member in Training meetings, but since there'll be so many a few girls have already offered to help. I'm not going to lie, it will certainly be a challange...but it has been our chapter's goal for a while to grow, and our province officer strongly encouraged us to grow as well. Thanks for the advice! It's always nice to hear advice from girls in non-NPC sororities that understand how our Rush tends to go. :) |
