Philanthropy's
Hi I just wanted to find out what your chapters philanthropy is or tell me about some good philanthropy's at your school. I go to the University of Tennessee and we do Watermelon Bust in the fall and the North American Food Drive as well. Watermelon Bust has failed to make as much money as the other big philanthropy's on campus and we are thinking about new ideas for a new philanthropy next fall.
Overall the chapter is doing ok, we are still on a strict probation until May but the overall spirit is back in the fraternity and we can't wait to rush in the spring. Good luck to all brothers and chapters and please keep me informed about your chapters throughout the year. |
We sold daffodils at Cal
The Zeta at Cal Berkeley had a Spring event that involoved the brothers, sorority girls, and flowers.
In the late forties and fifties, the spring event at Cal was the LXA Daffodil Festival. Daffodils were sold to raise money and the sorority that raised the most money would have their nominee crowned "Daffodil Queen". At one time she had to be a blonde to reflect the golden color of the flowers. Festival was followed by a formal where the announcent of the queen was made. |
John1082, sounds like a great idea! Is it still going on?
Ryan, LX Z has never done a watermelon bust as never knew about it back when.:) If it was even back then!:D We do of course the GNAFD. But to counter act the SX Derby Days, We did WesternWeek. Old wood facade depicting a old western town. Out up on the front lawn of the House. We then came up with the Hot-Tub-A-Thon. Hot tib on the front lawn of the House. Invited a Soroity to join us and did for 72 hours. Got a lot or PR from the media for us and the Soroity. A large sheet of plywood was put up and any donors had their names placed on it It did not cost us a lot as the tub was donated for advertising and some of the fast food resturants donated to to the guys and gals for adv. Money went to the Ronald McDonald House. Hot tub event was held in the fall when chilly so the steam comes off of the tub. Makes great pictures. William-Jewell in Liberty Mo. does a teeter-totter-thon. |
philanthropy
In the Spring here we do the Lambda Chi Alpha Pledge Queen Pageant. It involves having a pageant where 1 girl from all the freshmen fall pledge classes competes. It is a Miss America sanctioned pageant and the winner goes on to compete for Miss something or another and can eventually go on to compete for Miss Arkansas, and so on. It is a huge success because damn near every sorority girl on campus turns out to support their girl, raising roughly $7/pop. And we love it because well, the same reasons. There are some pics of last years on our website. http://www.uofalambdachi.org
