Surpise, It's a Boy!
-- I found this article on the AOL News section! I am still confused on how this woman didn't know! Stupidity is a never ending battle!
SYDNEY (Oct. 18) - An Australian woman got the shock of her life when she gave birth to a healthy baby boy just three hours after learning she had been pregnant for nine months. Carolyn Hounsell, 27, went to her doctor with stomach pains and was admitted to hospital, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday. A few hours later, the care worker said she got "a very big shock" when she delivered a 3.6 kilogram boy. "I'd had some indigestion," Hounsell said, according to the newspaper. "They sent me off for an ultrasound, which told them I was at 37 weeks. The cramping I'd had were contractions," she said. Hounsell had tried unsuccessfully to conceive in the past. Her husband Dennis Ross, 44, had been told he could not father children after a car accident two-and-a-half years earlier. "He's a good size. It makes you wonder where I could hide it. My boss was very surprised but not quite as surprised as I was," Hounsell was quoted as saying. 10/17/03 23:50 ET |
Weird. I do find it hard to believe that a woman could carry a baby for 9 months and not know. But I suppose it's possible. Some women barely show at all througout their pregnancies. Sometimes spotting can occur, which they can mistake for having their period. But still... you would think she would know...

I worked with a lady who this happened to twice. She was morbidly obese (clinical term-I'm not being mean...this was a medical diagnosis b/c she was more than 100 pounds overweight). She never had a cycle, and a weight gain of 9 or 10 pounds never sent up the red flag-she always had gastro-problems like indigestion, etc.
Her first child she learned about on her way to the hospital in the ambulance when she went into labor, after thinking her appendix had burst. Her second child, she found out about when she was 7 months along and was having an ultrasound for her gallbladder. She was thrilled both times, but man, it shocked the rest of us at work. |
Not the type of surprise I'd like.

Wow. It's good though since they had been trying to conceive, so it's a nice blessing for them.

Dayum! That'd suck!

 Wow that's just crazy!

Am i the only one who, when they saw this thread title and who posted it was expecting a confession or revelation of the truth?
For someone who was supposedly leaving GC, you sure do post a lot. Kitso KS 361 times that if you're so fat that you don't know if you're pregnant, get yourself a damn exercise bike and cut down on the KFC Buffets |
thats why I didn't read it at first - I just thought she was telling us she was having a boy...

WoW thats just crazy. I never thought someone could carry a child for 9 months and not know about it, although I have had a friend be pregnant and not know until she was about 5 1/2 months. But anyways Im glad they were blessed with a child even though it did come as such a shock!!
Nichole |
I understand some people *might* not show because of weight, etc. but how could they not feel the child move inside them? Did the kid just NEVER move, no matter what? Did the kid not have hiccups or gas? When my mom was pregnant with my brother, he laid still until music played and he *jumped* around like a maniac. He also had the hiccups like every night. I laid on my mom's psyatic (sp?) for the last month of her pregnancy with me, so I was OBVIOUSLY there.

As for the woman in the article - you would think after going through infertility treatments and trying to concieve, she would be hypersensitive to her body and how it works  |
