Starting an alumnae chapter/ivy connection
Can someone fill me in on what the process is to start one?
I've noticed that the Space Coast area has many Alpha Phi alumnae, but many of them aren't very active alumnae in the sense that they don't join alumnae chapters. The closest ones are in Winter Park/Orlando and Tampa, which is over an hour away to Winter Park/Orlando and has some evil traffic. I hope to someday be able to give back to my chapter as an advisor or as a sort of "alumna at large", but I know that in order to do that, I need to step away for a few years and let the girls grow up on their own. I will still come hang around for alumnae weekend and Homecoming, and intiation, but I can't be there to hold their hand all the time (and truth be told, I don't think they'll need me to do it either!) because it would just hold them back from their full potential. But at the same time, I need an outlet. I will be moving maybe 20 minutes north (or even staying in the area) because I will be working at KSC when I graduate in May. I want there to be more to my life than working 40 hours/week. I want to volunteer and have a social outlet, and I think Alpha Phi would be a wonderful way to do that. I'd like to see the alumnae in the area come together and do something every once in awhile for a good purpose. I want to keep meeting those sweet little old ladies with 50-year badges. I've always thought of Alpha Phi as a lifetime commitment, and I want to do something. (Please note, I will probably be burnt out as hell come May thanks to good ol' school, but it's something I'd like to do in the next year or two. ;) ) |

I just helped form the Pasadena ALumnae chapter and it is a lot of work. A lot of commitment and a lot of fun.:)
first step i would contact EO to see if they are interested in forming an alum chapter in your area. and then they will send you the needed material to get started. Another good starting point is on the Website. the alumnae manual. I printed the entire book off ( when my family owened a mail box etc) so it was free to print, but these are the first steps you need to do first to get the ball rolling. aoe, Laura |
