The role of alumni in your chapter
In my chapter, there was no interaction between alumni and collegiates. I would like to become more involved as an alum, and I am wondering what role, if any, alumni play in your chapters.
Thanks, Erica |
1) Advisors.
2) Donate to various chapter endowments. 3) Sponsor the semesterly formal, as well as anniversary celebrations. 4) When invited, alums come back to the chapter as requested, for pledge meetings and active meetings. |
Wow, Kelley. It must be great to have so much involvement from alums. Thanks for your reply.

ALL APO volunteers at the sectional, regional, and national levels are APO Alumni. So Alumni can also get involved at these levels. A new document will shortly be available at the National website going over all these volunteer opportunities. You can also contact your section chair/regional director to get involved now. well it depends...
My chapter alumni, MIGHTY ZETA PHI range from those who give monetary donations, to those who attend chapter functions to those who have not seen the chapter since they pledged... Most alumni involvement really depends on the individual. Being that I am alum/advisor coordinator for Z-Phi, I have come to realize that alumni involvement alot of times reflect the experience they had with Alpha Phi Omega, meaning that those who had positive experiences such participate more than those who did not.

Another reason is that if pledges/actives are not taught the importance of alumni involvement, then they will not be involved when they are alumni. My chapter during our pledge program has always stressed the importance of alumni in APO as volunteers, included a copy of the the Alumni brochure in pledge manuals, and the like. If other chapters don't bother, then some Brothers will think that involvement in APO ends when they leave college. Those that understanding the importance of alumni involvement (and who had a good APO experience) will in many cases want to continue in APO as an alumni volunteer right after graduating. |
Here at the chapter I'm pledging, Alpha Beta, there are about 7-8 alums around. One alum, a grad students is always around, then there are our 4 advisors, 2 who work for the university and 1 who is at EVERYTHING. Then there are like 2 alumni who are around but dont attend everything.

Thank you all for your replies. I have also received some great feedback on the APO Yahoo group.
Today I received an e-mail from a woman from my chapter's Section. I was so pleased to hear from her, and she seemed eager to find a way for me to contribute. In Brotherhood, Erica |
