Badge History

Check out the link. Can anyone tell me about this badge? It's obviously a TBS badge but it's not our current design. I'm curious and I need someone with a knowledge of our history. Please help!

very interesting badge

You should email the link to HQ to see if they know (they probably do). Is it possible a Beta Tau Sigma badge (given the "B" is so prominent)?

I found a reference to a BTS club here:
http://www.bethanylb.edu/about_betha...nizations.html

Beta Tau Sigma Honorary Scholastic Society is the Bethany College honor society

and here....

It appears BTS is an honorary scholastic society

The National Council is aware and Debbie Baker is trying to contact them to see what she can learn. If nothing else, she will bid in order to keep us from losing a possible part of our history. Janet West Miller and Wava have both been made aware as well in order to get their feedback.

Thanks for keeping your eyes out there!

I know that SuperSister is bidding on the badge as well. I will go research at the Lib about it too!

If Debbie Baker wins the bid...and I'll find out her ebay name...then the badge, once the history is determined, would go to the archives at the National Headquarters.

Debbie Baker did get it but I haven't checked with her lately on the status of history. She was checking with board members and alums from back a ways on history.

I'll see her this week and will ask then. I don't know if I'll have a chance to post the reply up here until next week as Debbie and I are both at a conference in Chicago for band directors...if your director will be there, tell him/her to stop by the booth we have.

I wonder, would it be possible that there was a local GLO at some point also called Tau Beta Sigma, and the badge was for that org? I've never seen a TBS badge other than the tiny gold one, so it's just a suggestion. Though I'm not a TBS so I don't really know. :p

DGMarie 12-18-2003 02:42 PM

There was in fact a local named Tau Beta Sigma. I know this bec once when I was doing a geneology search I came across a photo on a website from the '30s in which the women of Tau Beta Sigma sorority were photographed. When someone from this geneology board asked about it, someone else replied that their relative was in TBS and it had nothing to do with band at all. I'll see if I can find the link.

Ah ha, after only about 40 minutes of looking!

One more possibility...

There have been times in other organizations where there was not ONE pin for all to use. The idea was to have some of the same basic concepts...and then allow for individuality.

Debbie still didn't have answers when I checked with her this week. She's asking around though and we met with the gentlemen who is our rep with our jewelry company as well.

TBS badge

Did the badge finds its way to HQ? I noticed that the person who bought it also bought a ring that was a TBS National President's ring!

I'm anxious to find out what we know about the badge! Patience is not one of my virtues.

kat1946 01-12-2004 11:56 AM

It's in Debbie Baker's hands now, still...

We have a national council meeting in 2 weeks face to face. At that time, we'll discuss it. It will end up at HQ. Just a matter of when.
